Summary
- Pokemon Go’s Holiday Part 1 collection event references Chappell Roan and Batman and Robin.
- There are two challenges, Hot to Go and Ice to Meet You, all about Fire and Ice-type Pokemon.
Pokemon Go’s end of year event references two gay icons, Chappell Roan and Mr Freeze (specifically the Batman and Robin version).
Under the research tab in the Holiday Part 1 collection, you can find two challenges: Hot to Go — ie Chappell Roan’s most iconic song — and Ice to Meet You. If you haven’t seen the incredibly camp, despised ’90s Batman film, this is a nod to one of Mr Freeze’s many, many puns, performed by Arnold Schwarzenegger of all people.
What killed the Aerodactyl? The Ice Age!
As you can guess from the names of each challenge, they’re all about collecting Fire and Ice-type ‘mons. Chappell Roan and Mr Freeze is a bit of a random pair up, but hey, it works.
At the time of writing, you have just shy of five days to complete these challenges, earning yourself the Elite Collector medal and, I’m sure, making Chappell proud.
One Pokemon Fan Even Designed A Chappell Roan Card
I had a dig around to see if Chappell Roan has ever talked about her favourite Pokemon, ended up on a weird Regirock TikTok rabbit hole, and ultimately never got my answer.

Haley is finally discovering her queer identity thanks to a new viral trend.
But one fan did create a Roan-themed Pokemon card, pairing her with Miltank.
It’s a gorgeous card, but not everyone is convinced that Roan would pick the cow ‘mon. Other suggestions include Jynx, Togepi, and Chansey, but I’m definitely in the Dhelmise camp after her SNL appearance. Just look at this side-by-side.
As for Mr Freeze’s favourite Pokemon… well, I’m not sure. But I imagine that he’s fond of Mt. Freeze in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, so maybe he’s an Articuno fan. I can at least say with certainty that he’d hate Zubat and Golbat, and their equivalent in-universe Golbatman who lives in his Golbatcave.
One of the most successful mobile games in history, Pokemon Go uses augmented reality to fulfill your dreams of becoming the trainer you’ve always wanted to be — from catching ’em all to battling raids and hatching eggs.
