Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered is a brilliant, bloody, and bold cult hit from the minds of Suda51 and Resident Evil director Shinji Mikami. It’s a raunchy, silly trip through the underworld that has you facing off against a legion of demons as you fight to save your kidnapped girlfriend.

Of course, to kill demons, you need the right tools, and the game provides plenty of different weapons to use against the demonic hordes in the form of Johnson, your trusty partner. While there are only three main weapon types for Johnson to turn into, each evolves over the course of the game. Not all weapons are created equally, however, so here’s a handy ranked list of every weapon in Shadows of the Damned.
10
The Big Boner
Bigger Is Not Always Better
A pistol that turns into a giant, long-range explosive rifle sounds like a dream weapon for a game like Shadows of the Damned, but unfortunately, it’s just not a lot of fun to use. When using the Big Boner, your movement is restricted to rotating and aiming, much like you’re stuck on a turret. These turret sections are slow and boring, but luckily, they’re used sparingly.
It’s a shame that we don’t get to see the Big Boner have more uses throughout Shadow of the Damned, as it could have provided a much-needed heavy weapon to the game’s arsenal. Instead, Johnson’s ultimate transformation feels like kind of a dud.
9
Teethgrinder
Great Crowd Control, Terrible Accuracy
Of the three different assault weapons in Shadows of the Damned, the Teethgrinder is easily the worst of the bunch. Sure, it has a superfast firing rate and is great for controlling crowds, but it’s far less accurate than the weapon’s base form, the Teether, and burns through ammo twice as fast.
Being able to tear through demons with this teeth-shooter is fun, but because of how inaccurate it is, it’s pretty difficult to use against bosses, making the game’s pistols or shotguns a better option when challenging bigger foes.
8
The Boner
A Trusty Side-Arm
Johnson’s first form, The Boner is a demon-killing, bone-firing pistol with a quick reload time and incredibly accurate shots. It’s the main weapon that you’re bound to use through much of the early game, and it’s a decent pistol due to its long-range potential.

The only issue with The Boner is that it is a little basic, and while it can be a great weapon to keep enemies at bay from a distance, it’s less useful when faced with multiple enemies up close. It’s also overshadowed by a later upgrade that gives the pistol an alternate firing mode.
7
Monocussioner
A Shotgun That Shoots Skulls
The Monocussioner is the first shotgun that you’ll be given in Shadows of the Damned, and oh, what a shotgun it is. Able to absolutely wreck almost any enemy in the game with a well-placed, up-close shot, the Monocussioner is likely to be your best friend through the early stages. It’s especially adept at destroying weak points.
Like The Boner, however, this shotgun is a little basic. Okay, so it shoots skulls, which automatically makes it awesome, but the only attribute you can upgrade initially is the reload speed and the weapon can only hold one shot at a time. There are much better versions of the weapon as Johnson gains more blue gems.
6
Teether
An SMG With A Bite
The base form of the aforementioned Teethgrinder, the Teether excels at crowd control and destroying weak points quickly, as long as you can stay on target. Luckily, the Teether is fairly accurate, making it a great close-range and mid-range weapon. It’s far more accurate than the Teethgrinder, which is what gives this gun the edge over its own evolution.
After getting used to the Teether for a few stages, the weapon is quickly upgraded and loses some of its usefulness, which might leave you wishing that the weapon had never been upgraded in the first place.
5
Skullcussioner
Four Times The Skulls
Where the Monocussioner could only hold one shot, the Skullcussioner can fire four skulls before needing to be reloaded. Once you have unlocked the weapon, you also get access to more upgrades, allowing you to sink red gems to increase the weapon’s damage and capacity.
Like its predecessor, the Skullcussioner is an amazing close-range weapon, and as enemies increase in numbers, it will become your best friend in some of the more crowded stages. The game also gives you plenty of skull ammo, so even with frequent use, you’re unlikely to find yourself running out.
4
Hot Boner
Your Best Friend, But Better
The Boner is a perfectly fine pistol for the start of the game, but the Hot Boner makes an already good weapon even better. With its impressive range and fast reload times, especially once you sink some points into upgrading it, the Hot Boner is a great weapon for taking on some of the bigger bosses.

The Hot Boner also gains the ability to shoot a “sticky payload” on your enemies, creating a light bomb that can be detonated by shooting at it. It’s a great way to damage small groups of enemies and quickly clear the darkness off of protected demons. The bomb is also useful for breaking open cracked walls in order to progress through stages and find secrets.
3
Skullfest 9000
Multi-Skull Mayhem
This upgraded form of the Skullcussioner packs a serious punch and gives the weapon a new ability. By holding the trigger, you can charge the weapon, loading a total of four skulls into the barrel. Unleashing the skulls at close range is bound to topple even the mightiest of foes, but the weapon can also be used as a decent mid-range gun if your shots are precise.
Overall, the Skullfest 9000 doesn’t bring much new to the table, but it stands above its earlier forms because of its charging capabilities.
2
Dentist
A Versatile Assault Rifle
The Teether is a great weapon, but its evolution, the Teethgrinder, is a bit of a disappointment. The Dentist, however, is definitely an upgrade over the previous forms. It’s still a crowd-control weapon at its core, but this final version of the SMG/assault rifle has an extra ability that makes it immensely useful against long-range enemies.
By aiming the weapon without pulling the trigger, you can lock onto multiple enemies. Firing the weapon will send rapid-fire streams of blue teeth at the unlucky souls that are targeted, quickly putting down groups of bad guys. It’s especially useful when targeting weak spots on fast-moving enemies, though it still has the drawback of burning through ammo at a fast pace.
1
Skullblaster
Now With Explosives!
The final form of the shotgun, the Skullblaster, is arguably the most useful and powerful weapon in all of Shadows of the Damned. It has all the close-range firepower you could ask for, maintains its ability to load up four skulls at once, but gains the added bonus of being able to create a huge bomb that can wipe out loads of enemies all in one go.
The Skullblaster is the perfect weapon to dispatch the dead and destroy weak points in the various elite enemies and bosses. Yes, the Hot Boner has a long-range advantage and the Dentist has lock-on, but the final form of this shotgun can easily make any encounter a quick one.
