Glow, glow, glow. Merrrrrrrry Christmas.
The game has been so well received, retaining a large portion of its player base, that players are calling for the return of lobbies that pair you with the same player all night long.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 Yearn For Old-School Lobbies
Over on the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 subreddit, players have been reminiscing over old-school CoD lobbies. No, not the ones in which there was horrific racist and homophobic abuse, but the ones in which you would be paired against the same opposition match after match, forming “friendships and rivalries”.
Skill-based matchmaking has all but ended this dream, and a thread on Reddit has garnered over 6,000 upvotes and almost 500 comments, with players lamenting the good old days.
Forward_Geologist_67 was one of the first to comment, saying, “Everyone speaks about old CoD lobbies like war stories where you just got bullied and called slurs all day, but connecting with new people and having a good time was just as much there. Tons of people have made long-lasting friendships just by playing Call of Duty and speaking with a mic.”
In the thread, Viciouspit also shared a story of Black Ops 6 that gave them a taste of just how good things could be, “Man, we got matched against the same people three times in a row tonight on SND. First time we won 6-4, second they won 6-5 (they got up 4-0 to start). The third time they backed the hell out when they saw it was us again, we were looking forward to a best of 3. But it did make me think of the old days when you’d play the same group until one decided to quit.”

While many were quick to share their disappointment at the lack of these lobbies, some players were happy just to share wholesome stories of their past.
Theweekendwife said, “During Black Ops 2 clan wars, my husband and I met and played with two guys from Canada. We added them and played with them for almost two years. In 2016, we drove to Canada and met them. Since then, we have flown and met each other 5 times and had a long-distance friendship ever since.”
There were tons of stories with players talking about long-lasting friendships, but Defiant_Activity_864’s was a little different. “When I was younger, I was scared of the CERN hadron collider making a black hole. So I hopped on CoD 4 just to chat with people and distract myself. Lots of adults let me know that the black hole thing wasn’t going to happen. You can’t do that anymore,” they said.
You’re right; you can’t do that anymore. Activision, please make it happen.
Forced to go rogue. Hunted from within. This is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.
The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.
In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
