The Catch

Best F2P DPS Option

One mistake many beginners make when building Zhongli as a Burst support or sub-DPS is that they go all in on ATK and CRIT but fully ignore Energy Recharge, leading to an overall loss in damage. Even if you can hit that sweet 100k damage on every Burst, doing so once every three or so rotations is never better than Bursting for a humble 50k each time.

However, one of the best spears for Zhongli can provide both Energy Recharge and CRIT, as well as a huge DMG Bonus to his Burst damage. Not only is this polearm a four-star, but since it’s a fishing weapon, it’s Zhongli’s best F2P (free to play) weapon and can very well be more synergistic than many five-star options.

The Staff Of Homa

Best General Five-Star Weapon

Zhongli doesn’t have a dedicated five-star weapon. His own signature, the Vortex Vanquisher, is actually not very good on him. This is because the weapon passive only triggers when the user is on the field, which means Zhongli won’t get any of the ATK Bonuses unless he’s the active character.

Putting the Vortex Vanquisher on Zhongli does not increase the strength of his shield that he gives to allies. It only buffs the shield when Zhongli himself is the on-fielder.

Instead, if you’re looking for a generally good five-star weapon for Zhongli, the Staff of Homa is the best choice. While it doesn’t have any Energy Recharge, it does grant a solid HP percent passive along with a huge CRIT DMG stat and further buffs Zhongli’s ATK depending on his HP. If you aren’t worried about ER issues, this weapon increases both his shield strength and his DPS, making it a splendid option for the Geo Archon.

Engulfing Lightning

Best Five-Star Sub DPS Weapon

Perhaps not the best way to go about things if you want stronger shields or supportive capabilities, but putting Raiden Shogun
‘s signature on Zhongli makes him a very strong Burst DPS that has the sole job of nuking enemies whenever his Burst is up.

Unlike traditional DPS builds, this doesn’t have the problem of not running enough Energy Recharge, since the weapon gives an immensely large ER substat and additionally buffs your ATK depending on your Energy Recharge, letting you go full Energy Recharge without losing out on too much damage. While the shields won’t be as strong and the damage numbers are not nearly as big, putting the Engulfing Lightning on Zhongli is the most comfortable way to play a semi-DPS Zhongli and have it work.

Best Three-Star Weapon For Zhongli

Geo is an element that scales off of DEF. Unfortunately, the Geo Archon was released before Genshin Impact fully found its identity, so his shield scales off of HP instead. As such, if you only need him for his shield and Elemental RES shred, any weapon that provides HP is a good spear for Zhongli.

Of the various three-star options available, the Black Tassel is the only one that has an HP substat. For most accounts, you’d rarely need anything better than this for your Zhongli, even despite the wasted passive.

Dialogues Of The Desert Sages

Good Four-Star Support Weapon

What makes Black Tassel one of the best Zhongli weapons is the HP stat since that’s pretty much all that Zhongli needs to shield most teams. As such, it’s a given that a four-star weapon that grants this substat would be an upgrade over the three-star Black Tassel, and the event-exclusive Dialogues of the Desert Sages is exactly that.

If you have Zhongli’s C6, this weapon becomes even more synergistic with him, granting him a significant amount of Energy.

Similarly to the Black Tassel, the passive here is useless as well, but Zhongli doesn’t mind that at all. While the improvement itself isn’t marginal over the three-star alternative, the extra shield strength does give you that extra edge on the off chance that an enemy would break through the shield.

Rightful Reward

Best Four-Star Weapon For Zhongli’s Shields

Rightful Reward is another event weapon that’s the direct opposite of Dialogues of the Desert Sage in that it grants the user Energy as well, but you get it for being healed instead of healing others. This makes it a lot better for non-healers, with Zhongli being no exception.

Apart from the Energy, though, there’s little that separates any of the HP percent statistics from one another, and either one can function as an amazing polearm for Zhongli.

There are many weapons that are good on Zhongli. However, the main benefit Zhongli brings to your account is that he doesn’t exactly need anything to function properly. His Elemental Burst, while strong, doesn’t matter all that much since his buffing capabilities and shields are both tied to his Elemental Skill. Additionally, since Zhongli has such a strong shield to begin with, losing out on some HP isn’t that big of a deal, either.

This makes him extremely cost-effective, and any supportive artifacts or weapons find more use on Zhongli than anyone else. With all of this said, the Favonius Lance is the best polearm for Zhongli simply because it provides so much Energy to his party members that you don’t need to focus on Energy Recharge on them.
