Onimusha is coming back, and it won’t be too long before fans can return to the world of feudal Japan.
As first revealed during The Game Awards, Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be coming in 2026 across PlayStation and Xbox Series consoles. It represents the first true return to the series since 2006’s Dawn of Dreams on the PS2.
In a near-two-minute-long trailer, the game’s protagonist can be seen absorbing the souls of defeated enemies, a series tradition. Then, some bombastic swordplay can be seen, including some unique finishers, before a sequence of a boss fight rounds out the presentation.
It isn’t a super long look at the game, but enough to show the series’ glow-up from the early PS2 days to full 4K resolution. It may be too early to tell, but it appears that the elements that made the series so revered among fans, such as the ability to absorb souls, along with the various mini-boss encounters, will be present come 2026.
