Though it might be kind of an odd time for a spooky-themed adventure in Monopoly Go this weekend, amid everyone’s real-life holiday season prep, but a new event has debuted in Scopely’s hit mobile game with a cold and creepy theme: Haunted Mansion, a new eight-person team event.

With the other players on your team, you’ll rid Mr. Monopoly’s winter home of all its scary inhabitants. Build your team on December 12 and 13 and get to work as soon as you’ve got all eight folks ready to go – you’ve got until 3PM EST on December 17 to play.
Build Your Team And Collect Haunted Mansion Tokens
The Haunted Mansion adventure event in Monopoly Go technically opened on December 12 at 12PM EST, allowing players to assemble a team of seven other players to begin playing the event itself. You’ve got 24 hours to select a team yourself, but incomplete teams will be paired with random players so they can begin the adventure before too long.
These players can be anyone from your friends list or even the random players Monopoly Go suggests for you, but just be mindful that you’re not the only one able to invite other players to the team once other players have joined. Everyone on a team is able to invite people until all eight player slots are filled, so you’d do well to team up with the most active players on your friends list where possible, so you’re not carrying the load for the team the whole weekend through.
You can leave your team if you don’t like how it’s shaping up, but you can only leave your team before the Haunted Mansion event begins properly. Once the team is full and the adventure has begun, you’re on that team for the duration of the event, so decide sooner than later if you’re sticking around!
Before you can begin tackling the tasks to reassemble this dilapidated Haunted Mansion, you’ll first need to collect Haunted Mansion tokens from other events happening concurrently in Monopoly Go throughout the weekend. Methods of getting more Haunted Mansion tokens include:
- Playing the daily leaderboard tournaments, competing against 99 other players to earn the most points when landing on Railroad tiles. There are plenty of milestone rewards in each daily leaderboard throughout the weekend that will give you extra Haunted Mansion tokens, and likely some as lump sum prizes for the top players on each board.
- Playing in the center banner events that are displayed below your current cash total. These change which tiles you’ll need to land on every time the events change and tend to run for longer amounts of time, but banner events feature more milestones that offer free Haunted Mansion tokens in exchange.
- Collecting your bonus in the in-game store that refreshes every eight hours. You’ll always earn cash prizes and a few free dice rolls from these bonuses, but during events that require tokens, like the Haunted Mansion adventure event in Monopoly Go, you’ll also be receiving free tokens every eight hours while the event is active.
- Finishing your daily quick win goals each day during the event, which, like the bonuses in the store, offer extra Haunted Mansion tokens while the adventure event is happening in addition to the usual loot.
Once you’ve got a few tokens on hand and a full team assembled, click onto the center of your Monopoly Go game board to begin playing Haunted Mansion.
How Do You Play Haunted Mansion?
The Haunted Mansion adventure event can appear a bit confusing when you first start, but the event begins for your team as soon as the team is full, so be sure to check in often to see what your seven teammates have been up to. The goal of the Haunted Mansion event is to work together to achieve goals throughout the weekend, repairing Mr. Monopoly’s mansion as you go, which you’ll do by playing a card game with those tokens you collected.
In each area of the Haunted Mansion, you and your team will be given an overall goal to complete so that you can finish the room, earn that level’s rewards, and move onto the next to make as much progress as possible before the event ends at 12PM EST on December 17. Each area’s goals will involve your team working together on different tasks in each room, effectively dividing and conquering the cleaning and reparation work.
You’ll do this by playing a simple card game, and if you’ve ever played Blackjack, it’s somewhat similar. When you’re ready to get to work on the Haunted Mansion, click onto the game board, and you’ll see your teammates conglomerated around different broken pieces around the current room, working on different tasks at the same time. The goal is to fully complete the progress bar at the top of the screen when you’re interacting with each repairable obstacle in the Haunted Mansion.
How To Clear Obstacles And Earn Rewards
When you’ve highlighted an obstacle, you’ll see three numbers at the bottom of the screen, presented against the back of two playing cards, with the requisite number of Haunted Mansion tokens below that shows how many you’ll need to challenge this hand each time you do. You’ll also see a few bluish dots below each number, which indicate how many sections of the progress bar will fill when this challenge is completed.
When you challenge one of these hands of cards, you’ll pull two cards from a deck numbered one through nine, and the goal of the Haunted Mansion event is to have the sum of the two cards you pulled be greater than the number shown on that hand’s challenge. For example, if the number on the card challenge is 12, you’ll need to pull cards that total 13 or more to clear this challenge.
What you’re also working against is an unseen deck of cards from which you’re pulling, which, like every other standard deck of playing cards, has 36 number cards per deck. You’ll be pulling from this deck without really realizing it, discarding used numbers until it’s time to shuffle your hand. If you’ve been scoring high, you may want to tackle lower-value cards for a few hands until the higher numbers show back up.
If you’ve ever played Blackjack, it’s somewhat similar. Think of the numbers shown on the Haunted Mansion obstacles as the number played by the dealer, and the two cards you draw have to be higher than theirs – you just don’t get to choose when to hit or hold. If you’re good at card counting, trying to work out the number of numerical cards left in the deck may come in handy here!
Should you clear one of the numbers shown on the Haunted Mansion cards, you’ll see that the progress bar at the top of each obstacle will be slightly filled with each victory! You’ll see that this progress bar is broken into sections, and as mentioned above, the number of bluish dots shown below each hand of cards you’ll need to best indicates how many sections of the progress bar you’ll fill in when you finish that challenge.
Each room has a few different obstacles, each with their own hand of cards you and your teammates will need to complete. Each player plays with their own tokens, but you’re working together as a team to make progress, so be a good teammate and check in anytime you have a few tokens on hand! Along the way, you may also see optional treasure chests that you can use your tokens to try and open instead. Only one player per team can claim each treasure chest, so choose wisely!
In general, teams seem to work best when you split up to cover different obstacles in the room, so if you see several people already clustered around something early on, you may be better off starting elsewhere. For example, in the first level, when you’re repairing the bridge into the mansion, a good way to divide the labor is to have a few people breaking down each broken section of the bridge at once, so each piece gets done that much quicker.
Each task your team finishes grants a level reward, and you’ll all be paid out with the same prize no matter who did what for the progression of the team. You’ll then move into the next room, and the process will begin anew with a fresh set of challenges. This continues throughout the weekend, so be sure to try and hit as many milestone benchmarks in the Haunted Mansion as you can before the event ends!
Capitalize On Special Cards
While you don’t get to manually draw cards from a deck when playing the Haunted Mansion adventure card minigame in Monopoly Go, you will occasionally happen to draw one of four different specialty cards from within the deck.
- The On Fire card indicates that you’re on a hot streak, and you’ll see the deck of cards in the lower-right corner appear to be aflame when this is active. When you’re on a hot streak like this, you’ll pull a third card on every hand you’re challenging until you next lose. For example, if you beat three hands in a row, you’ll have that third card for those three hands, but after losing on the fourth hand, you’ll go back to the normal two-card pull.
- The Ice Cold card, which offers a flat plus four to your hand’s total, which can be a huge help when challenging the higher-value card challenges! Like the On Fire card, the Ice Cold card is in effect until the next time you lose a challenge.
- The Team Boost card makes your pulls even better depending on how many teammates are working on that obstacle. If you see a few people working on the same thing, you could hope for a Team Boost card that multiplies the value of your pull by the number of teammates on that obstacle. For example, if there are three other players, your two cards will be multiplied by three before being compared to the point total from the challenge.
- The Shuffle Card seems a bit rarer, but it reshuffles your deck of cards. All 36 numbered cards re-enter your deck, and you start from scratch, meaning any losing streaks may turn around with this card!
These cards are only active for a limited time, so be sure to use them when you’re able to compound the points you’re able to score on each obstacle in Haunted Mansion!
