Despite all the breaks the author Togashi takes, the series is still massive, especially to long-term readers of this story who stick around, no matter how long they have to wait for a new chapter. Unfortunately for readers, HxH has been put on hiatus once more, for an undisclosed period of time.

Nen is the power system of HxH. With six types of nen auras, Togashi reveals how common or rare each type is among the HxH population.
While this is unfortunate, fans of the series should know that this hiatus might not be as bad as they had expected, and that the series might be returning sooner rather than later, all thanks to Togashi’s hard work.
Hunter X Hunter’s Latest Hiatus Shocked The Fans
HxH 410 is The Last Chapter
As fans have most likely heard by now, Hunter X Hunter has started its latest hiatus. The last chapter that fans got before the hiatus was HxH chapter 410, which dropped last Sunday, December 8. The hiatus was announced a few days ahead, however.
Chapter 410 of Hunter x Hunter was incredible and it left fans on a huge cliffhanger. Fans got to see the aftermath of the card game between Morena and Borksen, and at the same time, got to learn even more about Morena’s powerful ability. The biggest development in that chapter, however, has to do with the Martial Law that was declared. Readers learned that most of the princes have been captured by Benjamin, waiting to use them as hostages as he tries to win this Succession War and appoint his own child as the next King. The reveal that Benjamin had a child was huge, but many fans had theorized about this.
The whereabouts of many of the important characters in this war are unknown, such as Kurapika, Chrollo, Hisoka, Tserriednich, Halkenburg, and so on. Readers can definitely not wait to see what will unfold once the manga is back with chapter 411.
Ten hours from onset to coma!! Death comes two hours after that. I have about nine and a half honored hours… I need to eliminate the princes by then!! — Prince Benjamin
Overall, however, the Hunter x Hunter manga did not return that long ago. Indeed, fans got to access 10 Hunter x Hunter chapters before the manga went back on a hiatus, and these chapters spanned from 401 to 410. The manga was only run in Shonen Jump for about 3 months. It returned in October 2024, and now in December 2024, it’s going back on a hiatus, and will likely not return before 2025 hits.
Togashi’s Previous Hiatuses for Hunter x Hunter
Hunter x Hunter Goes Through a Lot of Hiatuses
As fans of Hunter x Hunter know, the series goes on hiatuses quite often. The series has been on hiatuses for longer than it has been serialized in Shonen Jump.
To be specific, Hunter x Hunter started experiencing hiatuses during the Chimera Ant arc around 2006 and 2007, and since then, the series has never truly been back consistently. This is also when the series started slowing down greatly. The Chimera Ant arc would only conclude in 2011, even though the arc started back in 2003. Now, for the current arc in the manga, the Succession War arc, fans know that it started way back in 2012. Even now, it’s still ongoing over a decade later, mostly due to very long hiatuses.
The hiatuses that occurred during this Succession War arc were some of the longest in HxH history, with one of them being 4 years long, lasting between November 2018 and only returning in October 2022.
As long as I am officially anointed as successor, even if I die… I can hand the throne over to my child!! Emergency law article 1!! “Sustaining the monarchy in a crisis” will apply!!! — Prince Benjamin
Before the hiatus that the manga is currently going on took effect with the release of HxH 410, the previous one started in early 2023 after HxH had come back from a 4-year hiatus. When the manga returned in 2022, it also delivered 10 chapters, just like the current batch, before going back on hiatus for 2 whole years. Undoubtedly, this was a long hiatus, but not close to being the longest in HxH history.

Hunter X Hunter Chapter 410: The Hiatus Begins
HxH releases its last chapter before going on a Hiatus. Togashi leaves fan on a huge cliffhanger.
As far as the reason why HxH has so many hiatuses goes, it is mainly due to the health of the mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi. Togashi has been going through chronic lower back pains, and other health issues in general. The fate of HxH was so uncertain that the author even released his least favorite ending of the series to fans, just in case, with some other endings he could be revealing in the future, depending on what happens with the manga.
When Will The Manga Return?
Readers Don’t Know When the Manga is Returning, But It’s Looking Good
Many fans might be worrying right now about when the series will be returning to Shonen Jump, especially as HxH is more than known for very long hiatuses. The previous hiatus was 2 years long, but hopefully, this one will be much shorter.
This is mainly due to the fact that Togashi is currently still working on the series. Indeed, Togashi plans to work on HxH until chapter 430 for the time being, and HxH chapters such as 411 and beyond are probably already fully done.
At the end of chapter 410 of HxH, the message left was that the next batch of chapters would be announced soon, instead of what fans got 2 years ago, which was a message along the lines of the series stopping publication in the next issue of Shonen Jump. These two messages are quite different, despite both announcing a hiatus. The one readers got this time is a lot more promising.
Togashi’s health has also been improving, which is an amazing sign for fans. He revealed recently on his X account that he underwent surgery, and fans can only pray for his recovery and hope he can continue strong with this series.
I just finished rough drafts of 2 chapters. I had surgery. I was under local anesthesia, and the doctor was explaining and showing me what was going on. It was a valuable experience and I learned a lot. I would like to thank the doctors. — Togashi
With all that in mind, it’s unlikely HxH will go on another 2-year hiatus, like before, and fans should expect the series to return in early 2025 as Togashi has been working hard on HxH. That said, nothing is confirmed right now, and fans will have to wait for any official comment on the matter.
Hunter x Hunter, despite the hiatus, is still available to read and access on Viz and MangaPlus. Hunter x Hunter 411’s release date has not been revealed yet, but will hopefully be in the upcoming months as Togashi continues his hard work on the series.
