After weeks of rumors and hype, Chinese esports team Invictus Gaming (IG) have finally revealed their their for the 2025 competitive LoL season.
IG signed LoL worlds-winning players to reclaim glory in 2025
The announcement was made at a live event in Chengdu, China, on Sunday, December 8, during the Legends Cup, a show match featuring several esports personalities and former professional players.
IG have hyped Chinese fans and the rest of the League community around the world by announcing a superstar lineup for 2025, featuring world champions like TheShy, Jiejie, Rookie, and Meiko. Former MSI champion GALA will be the starting ADC on the roster.
Additionally, the coaching staff will be made by Daeny and Mafa, two veterans on the scene. In particular, Daeny led Weibo Gaming to two World championship appearances, including a Grand final and a top-four finish.
LPL wants glory on home soil
IG have put together some of the best individual players that haven’t had the best of time in the past year.
TheShy is making its return to professional player after a one-year hiatus, rejoining with Rookie to form the two solo lanes. The legendary mid-top duo were key elements to IG’s first world title back in 2018.
Jiejie and Meiko were on the 2021 world-winning roster (EDG), but both of them have had a disappointing end to the season. Jiejie struggled on a roster full of youngsters on EDG while Meiko was eliminated by T1 in the quarterfinals of Worlds 2024 when playing with Top Esports. Similarly, GALA was also knocked out in the quarterfinals while playing for LNG.
Despite the disappointing results, all five players are known quantities and have always been key difference-makers on their respective rosters. With IG finding strong financial backing following a major restructuring, iG have set their eyes on the 2025 World Championship, which will return to China later next year.
With the tournament taking place in front of home fans and a world title that has been won by the LCK in the past three years, everything is on the line for both IG and the rest of the LPL. Will 2025 be the year? There’s only one way to find out, as the new season is set to start in January.
