Warning: The following contains spoilers for Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 9, “Thieves”, now streaming on Crunchyroll.

Dragon Ball DAIMA decided to slow things down a bit in Episode 9 with some lighthearted action, but an elaborate plot by Dr. Arinsu has taken a dangerous leap forward. Goku and company are still charting their path towards Tamagami Number Two and the next Demon Realm Dragon Ball, and Vegeta is increasingly eager to catch up. Much of Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 9, “Thieves”, gave fun moments to fan favorites as the halfway point of this journey draws near.

After an explosive match with Tamagami Number Three, Goku secured the Three-Star Demon Realm Dragon Ball with a definitive win. This collision was by far Goku’s most difficult DAIMA opponent yet, but it may only be a fraction of what he has in store as the series rolls on. At least three different villainous plots have taken shape heading into Episode 9, and one with roots all the way back to the Saiyan Saga may have just created DAIMA‘s deadliest monster.

Majin Kuu Emerges as Dragon Ball DAIMA Sets Up Two Tamagami Battles

Fresh off the defeat of Tamagami Number Three, Dragon Ball DAIMA began Episode 9 by giving Goku and friends a moment to relax. Panzy finally hit her breaking point after Shin suggested they once again camp in a hidden area, but her foolproof plan to slam a pink bear hat over Goku’s trademark spiky hair wasn’t quite Goku-proof, since the tiny hero took it off in the middle of a hotel lobby. Panzy didn’t care if the hat made Goku’s head itch and promptly slammed it back down over his hair, but that brief moment was still too long. Later that evening, chaos in the lobby caused by a werewolf was enough to pull Goku and friends out of their room as the werewolf’s bird-like ally swooped in to steal the Three-Star Demon Realm Dragon Ball. Their plan was perfectly executed, but Goku and Glorio quickly caught up and retrieved their recently stolen property.

Elsewhere in the Third Demon World, Hybis, Piccolo, Vegeta, and Bulma woke up after their own overnight hotel stay to learn the plane they arrived in had been stolen. Goku, Glorio, Panzy, and Shin stopped by to meet up briefly, but the quartet quickly got back in the air and headed towards Tamagami Number Two since there wasn’t room in their plane for the other group. The rapid departure infuriated Vegeta, which wasn’t good news for the gang of plane thieves that suddenly tried to ambush him. Vegeta and Piccolo finally got to showcase a little bit of their power by demolishing the attackers, and the group’s barely conscious leader promptly agreed to return the plane.

The quartet quickly got back in the air and headed towards the next Tamagami.

Word of Goku defeating Tamagami Number Three finally reached Supreme Demon King Gomah, and his anger over the news included a mention that Gomah’s first wish to Shenron should’ve been for “the Third Eye.” This single line brings to mind the ancient Triclops race Tien Shinhan descended from, but it’s not yet known if they were originally linked to the Demon Realm. While Gomah was the primary antagonist early in DAIMA, another enemy is shaping up to be the greatest threat to Earth’s heroes. Dr. Arinsu set yet another secret plan into motion in Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 8 when she delivered the essence of Majin Buu the very witch that created him. With the process of making a new Majin nearing completion, Marba decided to use one more ingredient in this multi-monster Majin stew. In a callback to the Saiyan Saga of Dragon Ball Z, one of only two remaining Saibamen seeds was planted in this Majin brew and quickly grew into the shocking creation of Majin Kuu.

Arriving as a spiritual successor to Majin Buu that looks like a Saibaman did the fusion dance with Kid Buu, Majin Kuu confidently set off to defeat Tamagami Number One for Dr. Arinsu at the end of Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 9. Hybis and Bulma potentially celebrating a recent beauty parlor trip was the only thing included in a very short preview of Episode 10, “Ocean”, but all eyes are on the remaining Tamagamis as the expected halfway point of this series arrives. If Goku and Majin Kuu are both successful, Dragon Ball DAIMA could be surprisingly close to summoning the Demon Realm equivalent of Shenron.
