Legacy Petition Milestone Means Amazon Must Renew It

Legacy Petition Milestone Means Amazon Must Renew It

Key Takeaways

  • Fans are petitioning to save Bosch: Legacy, surpassing previous efforts with over 12,000 signatures.
  • Amazon’s decision to cancel the show is facing backlash, with fans demanding more Harry Bosch stories.
  • The fan-driven campaign was instrumental in Amazon’s past decision to give the go ahead for Bosch: Legacy.

Bosch: Legacy will air its final season in March 2025, but the fans are fighting hard to save it with a petition on change.org. This isn’t the first time the fans have fought to save Harry Bosch, after a petition was launched in 2020 to save the original Bosch series from ending. The campaign was signed by 10,529 fans, and it was instrumental in persuading Amazon to give the go ahead for the spin-off, Bosch: Legacy. As it stands, the Save Bosch: Legacy petition has 12,866 signatures, after being launched just three months ago. Surely this means Amazon must listen to the fans and give them what they want: more Harry Bosch solo stories.

Bosch: Legacy was canceled back in September 2024, but Amazon tried to trick fans into thinking it was somehow by design that Harry Bosch’s solo run was coming to an end to make way for the upcoming Ballard spin-off series. However, fans saw through the PR spin, and the Save Bosch: Legacy petition is creating more noise than the previous one. It’s only a matter of time before Amazon will have to take notice and go back on their decision to cancel it.

The Original Save Bosch Petition Was Successful And Led To Amazon Launching Bosch: Legacy

For some reason, Amazon doesn’t seem to realize how instrumental Harry Bosch has been in building their streaming platform from the ground up. The original Bosch series was their flagship show, and ran for seven successful seasons before it came to an end in 2021. The creative team were hungry for more series and this sentiment was echoed by the fans. Michael Connelly’s book series still had plenty more stories for the team to adapt for television, with Harry Bosch’s post LAPD career as a private investigator yet to be explored. Amazon eventually relented due to the noise being created by the Save Bosch petition launched by the fans, and gave the go ahead for the spin-off series, Bosch: Legacy.

On April 2, 2021, the Save Bosch campaign manager, Clare Costa, announced the good news about Bosch: Legacy on change.org:

Just a quick note from me to thank you so, so much for engaging in our campaign to save Bosch and for signing the petition. I’m sure you’ve heard the fantastic news of the Bosch spin off on IMDbTV and I have personally heard from Titus Welliver and producer Henrik Bastin that our loudness on social media made a huge difference in the decision-making, so give yourself a big pat on the back!

Fans rightly deserve credit for all the hard work they put in to save Bosch, and convince Amazon to give the go ahead to the spin-off series. Bosch: Legacy was launched on Amazon’s ad supported Freevee platform in 2022 and to nobody’s surprise, it became a huge hit, pulling in a bigger viewership than the original show. So, without the fans, none of this would have been possible. The fans’ hard work was also acknowledged by one of the show’s main cast members, Madison Lintz, (who plays Maddie Bosch), when she signed the petition to save the show:

I’m signing because I love being employed!! In all seriousness, thank you so so much for the constant support, Bosch wouldn’t be what it is without y’all. Thank you, thank you.

Titus Welliver’s pre-cancelation comments revealed that the plan was to keep the Bosch: Legacy and Ballard universes together, and also admitted that Ballard doesn’t exist without Harry Bosch. He also stated on a podcast that he was expecting to film Bosch: Legacy season 4 in January 2025, before Amazon’s shock decision to cancel it. Amazon’s statement promised more Harry Bosch related stories, then they axed the Jerry Edgar spin-off. Amazon’s behind the scenes maneuvering stinks more than Bosch’s dog, Coltrane‘s bagged up poop after a long walk around the Hollywood Hills on a scorching hot day.
