Stranger Things Season 5 Set Photos Reunites Two Sparring Characters

Key Takeaways

  • Stranger Things season 5 set photos reveal emotional Hopper and Mike scene
  • Season 5 will be set in 1987, teasing the vanishing of a key character
  • Fans speculate darker and brutal tone for final season in 2025

The fifth and final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things isn’t too far away now as the show’s final installment looks towards a 2025 release window. Before that, however, fans were treated to a rare glimpse of some behind-the-scenes images of what some of the show’s characters would be going through in season five, and it seemed to be an emotional time for two of them. In a bid to ramp up excitement for the supernatural coming-of-age series, Stranger Things showcased a set of BTS pictures from the sets of season five that included the gang sitting inside the canteen of their school in Hawkins, with another revealing Dustin, Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan in a car sharing a joke.

Fans also got a taste of what episodes will be included in Stranger Things‘ upcoming final season, which revealed that the returning series will be set in 1987. Season five’s titles started the ball rolling on a bunch of theories, specifically around its second episode, titled, “The Vanishing of ______,” which hides a key character’s name, an obvious parallel to season five, episode two’s title about Will Byers being taken into the Upside Down by the Demogorgon. This mind-boggling tease has left fans of the show wondering who might be next to get the Byers treatment.

Stranger Things Season 5 Set Photos Show An Emotional Hopper And Mike Scene

Hopper smiling at Eleven while eating breakfast on Stranger Things

In a bunch of images shared by @Christo45951886 and @SThingsSpoilers on social media, the behind-the-scenes photos clearly showcase a moment between Mike, played by Finn Wolfhard, and Hopper, played by David Harbour as they sit together on a bench in Hawkins. Hopper seemed to be discussing something pretty upsetting with Mike Wheeler given the somber expression on his face as Hopper sat beside him in his sheriff’s uniform. Another image shows Hopper on his own, walking across what looks to be a road in downtown Hawkins, and a solo photo this time of Mike wearing a striped black-and-maroon shirt.

Going by the captions shared in the images, it seems as though Mike is upset as they pay their respects at a memorial for those lost in the final battle. In Stranger Things season four’s ending, Vecna killed Chrissy Cunningham (Grace Van Dien), Patrick McKinney (Miles Truitt), and Fred Benson, and maybe the saddest out of them all, Eddie Munson’s death was certainly a tough watch for fans. The images also give fans a proper look at how far Mike has come since viewers last saw him, where his once baby-faced appeal has now grown into a mature young man. The set photos offer a proper glimpse into the show’s huge time gap since season four, which aired in July 2022.

As fans brace themselves for a darker and possibly more brutal Stranger Things season five showdown in Hawkins, these images could show one of the few times that Hopper and Mike take some time to reflect and remember what’s truly important amid horror and destruction.

Stranger Things season five is on track to premiere in 2025.
