Superman & Lois Concept Art Shows What Fans Could Have Seen In The Arrowverse Show

Superman & Lois is coming to an end and taking the final embers of the Arrowverse with it, and some recently revealed fan art gives fans a glimpse of what might have been if the show was allowed to go on for a couple more seasons.

Despite Superman & Lois being a fan favorite thanks to its grounded, unique take on the Man of Steel and links to the much-loved Arrowverse, the show faced an uphill battle to earn a shot at giving fans some closure. Facing cancelation after its third season, the show had to make some serious sacrifices to get renewed at the CW and bring things to a close in the fourth. Stripping down its cast and re-configuring the script to bring the show to an end several seasons before it wore its welcome, the now final fourth season would start with a whopper by taking on the Death of Superman arc and assuring viewers that things wouldn’t end without some fireworks.

While the Superman & Lois showrunners promised to wrap the Arrowverse and the show as best they could, it was always the case that fans would be missing out on a ton of concepts, characters, and story arcs that could have been if the show went on longer, and now one particularly exciting missed opportunity has been revealed. In a preview for the upcoming guidebook Superman: The Definitive History from Insight Editions, eagle-eyed fans will notice a rather interesting bit of concept art: digital production illustrations of the titular couple’s kids, Jordan and Jonathan, sporting super-suits shockingly reminiscent of multiple Superboy designs from the comics. While fans won’t get the full details on the outfits or ideas until after the book releases, the concept art is sure to get avid fans of the show thinking about what could have been.

There’s little doubt that Superman & Lois, a show that has exceeded its theatrical peers in many ways, could do justice to giving Jordan and Jonathan their turn in the spotlight alongside or even in place of their father. With the shocking start to the final season that fans were served, the idea of Superman needing a successor certainly didn’t stray far from the mind, and it is entirely possible that the showrunners had plans along those lines if things were actually going to go on past the fourth season. Unfortunately, that chance seems to be gone now. While there’s still one more episode left in the show’s final season, there’s little chance that fans are going to get to see the boys suit up in anything more substantial than an epilogue or post-credits scene if at all, which will only deepen the desire for more of the now-concluded show.

Superman & Lois has cemented itself as the best live-action Superman TV series and one of the best adaptations of the character and those close to him, period. While Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, and the rest of the talented cast and crew might be hanging up the cape for good after next week’s finale, they’ve certainly left fans with a lot to miss and even more to imagine is possible for the world’s biggest hero on the small screen.
