Pokemon TCG Pocket Adds New Premium Rewards Including Awesome Mewtwo Card

Key Takeaways

  • Pokemon TCG Pocket has introduced new Premium Pass incentives.
  • The December 2024 goodies include a pretty Mewtwo promo card and a handful of Pikachu-themed accessories.
  • Promo-A Mewtwo can be obtained by simply logging into the game with a Premium Pass, whereas the Pikachu items can be purchased with Premium Tickets.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket has introduced new Premium Pass rewards, including a Mewtwo promo card with eye-catching artwork. The timing of these arrivals indicates that Pokemon TCG Pocket will be refreshing its Premium Pass incentives at least once a month.

Priced at $9.99 per month, the main selling point of the Pokemon TCG Pocket Premium Pass is the ability to open one extra pack per day, so three instead of two. But the subscription service also includes some other benefits, like access to premium missions with unique rewards.

Pokemon TCG Pocket Card Is OP

While Pikachu and MewTwo EX continue to dominate Pokemon TCG Pocket’s meta, some players find another card that seems to be pretty OP right now.

Another such offering has just been introduced on December 1 in the form of a new Promo-A Mewtwo card. Obtaining it is as simple as subscribing to the Premium Pass, then claiming the card from the Pokemon TCG Pocket Missions screen, where it’s given away as a reward for logging into the game. Promo-A Mewtwo is one of those full artwork cards that looks really stylish and is thus a prime candidate for being featured on a sleek Display Board.

In terms of viability, the new Pokemon TCG Pocket promo card is decisively worse than the Mewtwo EX that can be pulled from the Genetic Apex expansion. Aside from having 30 fewer HP (120 vs. 150), the Promo-A Mewtwo comes with a single move, Power Blast, which deals 120 damage for two Psychic and two Colorless Energy and even requires the Psychic tokens to be discarded. In contrast, Mewtwo EX’s 150-damage-dealing Psydrive is basically a more powerful version of Power Blast, and the mon also has access to Psychic Sphere, a two-Energy move dishing out 50 damage. The Promo-A Mewtwo is thus primarily going to be useful to players with budget Psychic decks who are yet to pull the real deal and are in need of a finisher.

Aside from the Promo-A Mewtwo, the December 1 update to the popular mobile game has also introduced some new Pikachu-themed accessories, including a playmat, card sleeves, cover, and a backdrop. These can be found in the Pokemon TCG Pocket Premium Shop, which is exclusively available to Premium Pass members. Obtaining the new items requires spending Premium Tickets, which can be obtained by completing Premium Missions.

The timing of these additions suggest that developers DeNA and Creatures Inc. are planning to introduce new incentives for subscribing to the Premium Pass at the beginning of every month. Another novelty that’s on its way to Pokemon TCG Pocket is a new expansion set, which is currently on course to debut sometime in December 2024.
