Pokemon GO Players Want a Change Made to XL Candy

Pokemon GO Players Want a Change Made to XL Candy

Key Takeaways

  • Pokemon GO players want XL Candy to be more useful by allowing conversion to standard candy.
  • Reddit user suggests converting XL Candy back to standard Candy for more versatility.
  • Players feel frustrated with excess XL Candy, hoping for adjustments to Candy system.

Pokemon GO players are asking for a change to be made to the game’s XL Candy that would make the item much more useful. It seems that many players are frustrated by having an excess of XL Candy in Pokemon GO, and this idea could be a way to fix that.

In Pokemon GO, Pokemon can typically use two different kinds of Candy. Standard Candy is utilized in a number of different things, like levelling up a Pokemon, changing forms, purifiying Shadow Pokemon, and more. Once a Pokemon gets past level 40, it needs XL Candy in order to keep levelling. However, some players don’t seem to want the XL Candy they have.

Reddit user JRTheRaven0111 shared a post which suggested that if standard Pokemon Candy can be converted into XL Candy, then it makes no sense why it shouldn’t work the opposite way, too. In a comment, they suggested that they thought it would be fair for a player to get twenty standard Candy out of converting an XL Candy. Even though it takes 100 Candy to get a single XL Candy, JRTheRaven0111 noted that the ratio seemed like it would be too OP if players could readily convert for 100 Candy every time.

Pokemon GO Players Discuss Candy Usage

It seems that many players are in agreement with JRTheRaven0111, with the comments flooding with responses and nearly 3000 users upvoting the post. The general consensus seems to be that many players have XL Candy for Pokemon that aren’t a high enough level to utilize it, making it a waste in the meantime. While it could potentially provide the player with an easy bit of levelling once a Pokemon reaches the necessary level for it, that’s not much comfort in the meantime if a player lacks the standard Candy they need in order to get the Pokemon there in the first place.

Considering that XL Candy has been in Pokemon GO for four years now, it seems unlikely that it will undergo a major change like this. Players often make their wishlists known to Niantic, but the company ultimately has the final say. It would seem that many fans are in constant need of standard Candy, so perhaps just increasing the drop rate would be a start. Alternatively, the game could refrain from giving Pokemon GO players XL Candy until they’ve actually registered a Pokemon of that level and only award standard Candy in the meantime. It remains to see what, if any, major changes the Candy system will undergo in the future, but it’s clear that players would like some adjustments to be made.
