Freya Actress Wants God of War Spin-Off

Danielle Busitti, the actress who brought Freya to life in 2018’s God of War and God of War Ragnarok, would like to reprise her role once again in a standalone game. Kratos has met many interesting characters during the last two God of War games, with one of the standouts being the Norse goddess and former Valkyrie queen Freya. Players are first introduced to Freya in the 2018 God of War sequel, where she is initially presented as a mysterious witch who lives in the woods of Midgard and occasionally assists Kratos and his son Atreus.

As the story of 2018’s God of War goes on, Freya’s true nature is revealed as the ex-wife of Odin and mother of Baldur, bound to Midgard after defying the former and still haunted by the curse she placed on the latter. After Kratos kills Baldur, Freya spends the beginning of God of War Ragnarok hunting the former Ghost of Sparta out of revenge before ultimately making peace with him and aiding Kratos and Atreus once again on their quest to defeat Odin and prevent the destruction of the world.

Freya is quite popular with God of War fans thanks to her sympathetic backstory and complex characterization, so much so that many are hoping for her to receive a standalone spin-off game someday. As it turns out, Freya actress Danielle Busitti shares this sentiment, as revealed during the recent God of War panel at MCM Comic Con Birmingham (via TheGamer). Busitti said that she would be more than happy to step back into the recording studio to explore Freya further, especially when it comes to her growing friendship with Kratos.

It has been hinted that Sony Santa Monica is working on a new God of War project, with many job listings explicitly mentioning knowledge of the series as a qualification requirement. However, it isn’t clear exactly what this new project would be in the wake of God of War Ragnarok’s open-ended conclusion. In addition to another Kratos-focused mainline God of War entry, some have theorized that the spotlight could shift to Atreus for his own standalone adventure.

Another popular idea is a hypothetical God of War spin-off centered around Freya – be it a prequel exploring her time as the Queen of the Valkyries or a God of War Ragnarok follow-up that develops on her partnership with Kratos as they rebuild the Nine Realms. At least fans know that if a Freya game does happen, Danielle Busitti will be more than happy to step back into the role she played in the previous two God of War entries.

The series is considered a flagship franchise for PlayStation consoles with nine mainline games, with the first launching in 2005 for the PlayStation 2. The series revolves around a Spartan warrior named Kratos, who was tricked into killing his family by Ares, the Greek God of War. Kratos follows a path of vengeance against the Gods, eventually attempting to settle down in ancient Norway, though he soon crosses paths with the many Norse Gods.
