Shaman King is coming back and most anime fans can’t wait to reexperience it. Here are some things about the series most don’t know about.

But Super Star does not end the whole story, and a new arc should start soon, according to Takei. It will be titled Shaman King Yard, but further information has not been shared so far.

The Shaman King Story Saga

The first Shaman King manga ran from 1998 to 2004 (originally, compiled into 32 volumes), telling the story of shaman/medium Yoh Asakura, who wants to be able to channel the Great Spirit, win the Shaman Fight and become the Shaman King. He has a fiancée, Anna Kyoyama. Along with a group of people, they go on their journey. From 2003 to 2004, Takei serialized the spin-off manga Funbari Poem.

Shaman King Flowers takes place years after the first manga. This story was serialized from 2012 to 2014, and ended with 6 volumes. It follows Yoh and Anna’s son, Hana Asakura on his journey in the Shaman world. Old characters and their children also make their appearances in the story. Shaman King The Super Star is a sequel to Hana’s adventures, and not the opening to another new generation.

Both the original
Shaman King
and
Funbari Poem
manga were originally licensed in the US by VIZ Media, but now Kodansha USA holds the license. Kodansha USA also publishes
Shaman King Flowers
and

r (the latter only digitally).

Anime adaptations

Shaman King was adapted into anime back in the 2000s, originally running in Japan from 2001 to 2002, thus not fully covering the whole story, which was still in serialization when the anime ended. This adaptation, by studio Xebec, was licensed internationally and made the series known worldwide. It was directed by Seiji Mizushima, who would later direct Fullmental Alchemist.

An anime remake aired from 2021 to 2022. This new animation was produced by the studio Bridge, directed by Joji Furuta/Takeshi Furuta (The Seven Deadly Sins Season 2). Netflix streams the series, but it did not release the episodes simultaneously to the Japanese broadcast. Hiroyuki Takei agreed to the new series as long as the original cast returned, which happened. Shaman King Flowers was also adapted by the studio Bridge after the remake ended. Fans were mixed about the new adaptations.

The
Shaman King
remake and
Shaman King Flowers
are available to stream on Netflix. The original
Shaman King
anime is available to stream on Pluto TV and Tubi.
