- The developers felt Win Streaks weren’t offering a truly rewarding experience.
- Win Streaks will be replaced by a recalibrated Reward Chest system based on player position.
- Players’ highest Win Streak will remain as a legacy achievement on their profiles.
Squad Busters from Supercell has revealed that it will remove Win Streaks on December 16, 2024. The decision was made because the developers felt the win streaks “haven’t been hitting the mark in terms of feeling truly rewarding.”
As per the official announcement, the developers aim to make the game more accessible and enjoyable for all players. After reviewing their impact, it was found by the makers that Win Streaks added unnecessary tension and hesitation, detracting from the overall experience.
Win Streaks in Squad Busters will be replaced by a recalibrated Reward Chest system
Win Streaks will no longer count towards player progression, and the feature will be replaced with a recalibrated Reward Chest system based on player position. As a nod to the past, players’ highest Win Streak will remain visible on their profiles as a legacy achievement. Additionally, exclusive emotes will be given to those who achieved specific milestones (0-9, 10, 25, 50, and 100 streaks) before the deadline.
The developers also addressed concerns about compensating players for Coins spent on maintaining Win Streaks. They explained that compensating directly could unbalance the gap between free-to-play and paying players and hence stayed away from this solution.
Of course, within the community, there have always been mixed feelings about the removal of Win Streaks. Some see this as a positive move toward reducing pay-to-win mechanics, but other players are not so happy losing this feature and also about emotes being rewarded as part of compensation.
As mentioned earlier, this change will be coming on December 16th, 2024, and will be part of an update that also includes a rework of the end-of-battle flow. Overall, this idea aligns with efforts to simplify the game’s progression system and separate vanity aspects from progression boosts.
