On November 25, a new Nintendo Switch Online update added Donkey Kong Land 2 to a growing roster of Game Boy titles for subscribers to play. The surprising arrival of Donkey Kong Land 2 came just four days after Nintendo released the first Donkey Kong Land game on the Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy app.

Originally released in 1996 by Nintendo and Rare, Donkey Kong Land 2 is the sequel to Donkey Kong Land. Just as the first Donkey Kong Land title took inspiration from Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Land 2 drew from the 1995 SNES classic Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest. In Donkey Kong Land 2, players control Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong through 40 levels as they race to free Donkey Kong from the clutches of Kaptain K. Rool. The plot of Donkey Kong Land 2 was a simplified version of Donkey Kong Country 2, as K. Rool demanded the Kongs’ treasured banana hoard as a ransom for Donkey Kong’s freedom.

Nearly a week after Donkey Kong Land appeared on the Game Boy app, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can now play its sequel. Nintendo confirmed the news on social media by releasing a 44-second trailer of Donkey Kong Land 2‘s gameplay, and demonstrated what Diddy and Dixie can do to get through each level. While Diddy can do cartwheels and run quickly, Dixie can use her ponytail to glide and grab different objects. Donkey Kong Land 2 players can use the Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, and Game Boy Color filters during gameplay. To play Donkey Kong Land 2 on the Game Boy app, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers must connect to the Internet, and the app should automatically update.
