George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which tells the story of Dunk and Egg, reveals new cast members and a teaser of some rumored story details. It’s been a few months since House of the Dragon season two ended, leaving a massive dragon-shaped hole in the hearts of George R.R. Martin fans but, thankfully, there’s even more Game of Thrones’ fantasy lore in the works. Based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg books, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is currently in post-production with HBO, where it aims to tell the tale of Martin’s first novella, The Hedge Knight.

Set in the same world as A Song of Ice and Fire where the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne but a century before the events of the familiar Thrones story, the Dunk and Egg fables, which were first published in 1998, are prequels to George R.R. Martin’s main books and revolves around the adventures of the hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall, who would later become a legendary member of the Kingsguard, and his squire Egg, who would become King Aegon V Targaryen of Westeros. Graphic novels of three Dunk and Egg stories have also since been published, with Martin still looking to add more narratives to the adventure of the pair.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Adds More Cast Members and Rumored Story Details

Peter Claffey in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

According to Redanian Intelligence, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has found five more cast members that will join HBO’s epic fantasy adventure. Although quite a few of the show’s main cast have been revealed already, like Ross Anderson, who has been cast as Ser Humfrey Hardyng, and Peter Claffey as Dunk, the list doesn’t end there. Actors Ellie McHale-Roe and Carla Harrison-Hodge will star as Lia the Lovely and Beony, who are rumored to play sex workers. Eric Nolan, who played Dorregaray in The Witcher season three, is set to take on an unknown role, but according to Redanian Intelligence, viewers may see him wielding a sword as a knight. Finally, Cara Harris will seemingly come in as an original character named Gwin, and Mark O’Connor will play a musician of some kind, which could see him play anything from a flute or horn to a lute or lyre.

What’s interesting is that Lia the Lovely and Beony will apparently have a scene in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight where they discuss comparing jousting to sex work with a main character, saying that they “put their bodies in hazard for the pleasure of strangers.” Just like in Game of Thrones, prostitution played a big role in the daily goings-on of Westeros, where it was common to find brothels both, in major cities, and small towns, and it seems as though A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is following suit here too.

Although there isn’t a release date just yet, HBO officially has a 2025 release window in place for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. With House of the Dragon season three now given the green light, and a possible 2026 premiere, there’s no better time to be a “Thronehead”.
