Key Takeaways
- Patch 1.009 of Stellar Blade is out, bringing with it the highly-anticipated Nier: Automata crossover and photo mode.

- This is a nod to Nier: Replicant’s Kaine who performs a similar action in that game.
Stellar Blade‘s Patch 1.009 has been released, bringing with it the highly-anticipated photo mode and a paid crossover with Nier: Automata. The crossover adds several cosmetic items for Eve and her companions, inspired by the characters of Nier.
Interestingly, a new feature has been added if the player tries to get ‘up close and personal’ with Eve while she has one of the crossover outfits equipped. If you try and upskirt Eve (or just pan the camera to that area if she’s skirtless), Eve will boot the camera away, causing the screen to shake. You can observe this in Faz Faz’s video on YouTube.
It’s a Reference to Kaine from Nier: Replicant
While this may seem like a humorous addition, it’s actually a nod to the character Kaine from Nier: Replicant. There’s an achievement for upskirting Kaine in Nier: Replicant ten times. Each time you upskirt Kaine, she will kick the camera away in a similar fashion to Eve. If you do this ten times, Kaine will kill the player, granting the ‘Daredevil’ trophy/achievement. Eve’s newfound violent streak when the player gets inappropriate is a nod to Kaine’s reaction. In Nier: Automata, 2B will shoo away the camera with her hands if the player’s camera lingers too long in the predictable spots.
The Nier: Automata expansion for Stellar Blade costs $10 and allows the player to purchase cosmetics from Emil, a character from Nier that has been ported to Stellar Blade. It features four outfits for Eve, one each for Drone, Adam and Lily, three hairstyles for Eve and finally, a blindfold for Eve. There is no additional narrative content, which has disappointed some Stellar Blade players who wanted to play a Nier-inspired quest.
Shift Up has expressed an interest in continuing to create expansions and additional content for Stellar Blade, and the game is coming to PC next year. I shudder to think about what kind of mods the community will devise once that release arrives.
Stellar Blade is an action-driven game from Shift Up, originally revealed as Project Eve. It follows the aforementioned Eve as she battles the alien Naytiba invaders, in a bid to reclaim the Earth for humanity.
