The Most Valuable Uncommons In Foundations

The Most Valuable Uncommons In Foundations

Key Takeaways

  • Uncommon cards in Magic: The Gathering, like Angel Of Vitality, can hold good value for decks.
  • Boros Charm offers versatile options for red and white decks, making it worth $2.40.
  • Bolt Bend allows changing spell targets easily for only one red mana with the right conditions.

Even the Magic: The Gathering cards you don’t think of can be worth a fair amount. Often regulated to bulk piles, uncommon cards are often the bread and butter of Magic, with some very strong cards that help decks function found at the rarity.

Magic: The Gathering – The 10 Best Cards In The Foundations Starter Collection

Magic: The Gathering’s Starter Collection includes hundreds of cards to kickstart your deckbuilding, but these are the best.

Foundations has some very strong, and very cool, uncommon cards hidden away in it, with the best the set has to offer worth a good amount of money. If you’re looking to make the most out of your bulk cards, make sure to comb over this list before filing them away in a box for the next few months.

These prices come from TCGPlayer’s Market Value and are subject to change over time.

10

Gateway Sneak

Uncommon – $2.40

The Magic The Gathering card Gateway Sneak by Matt Stewart.

Gates are a fun and surprisingly reliable deck archetype that pops up every few sets, generally around the time Magic visits the Ravnica plane. Foundations brings back Gates along with a few utility cards to help the deck along.

Gateway Sneak lets you draw a card when you deal damage to a player with it, which is a solid ability. You get to slip the Gateway Sneak by your opponent’s defenses when a Gate enters the battlefield under your control since you can make it unblockable, a neat trick to push the game in your favor.

9

Boros Charm

Uncommon – $2.43

The Magic The Gathering card Boros Charm by Zoltan Boros.-1

Speaking of Ravnica, Boros Charm makes a return in Foundations, getting ready to power up your team or to dish out some damage. This red and white charm gives you three different modes to pick from when you cast it. You can:

All these options are great in different scenarios, whether you’re looking to survive a board wipe, push some damage through, or swing out with an alpha strike.

8

An Offer You Can’t Refuse

Borderless – $2.56

The Magic The Gathering card An Offer You Cant Refuse by Aaron J Riley.

You can’t say no to this powerful little counterspell. An Offer You Can’t Refuse has been a strong contender for one of the better ones printed in recent years. For one mana you counter a noncreature spell, which is pretty darn good.

Magic: The Gathering – 5 Strictly Better Cards In Foundations

There are some powerful cards in Magic: The Gathering’s Foundations set, and these cards are just better versions of what you can find.

The ‘downside’ to this card is that you get to give an opponent two Treasure tokens, which under any other circumstance would be bad, since giving your opponent mana isn’t great. But that mana is temporary, and whatever big spell they cast, you can just counter anyway.

7

Boltwave

Uncommon – $2.63

The Magic The Gathering card Boltwave by Caio Monteiro.

Much like Boros Charm, Boltwave is bound to be a popular card for the next few years since practically every burn-based deck and most red decks are going to want to run it.

Boltwave is a sorcery spell that deals three damage to each opponent. This puts it practically on par with Lightning Bolt, though losing the instant speed timing and being only able to target your opponent really does a lot to diminish the power of the card. Still, being able to take out a good chunk of your opponent’s life with just one red mana is pretty darn good.

6

Angel Of Vitality

Uncommon – $2.85

The Magic The Gathering card Angel of Vitality by Johannes Voss.

Another deck archetype that got some boost in Foundations are Angels, and no doubt that over the next several sets this deck will remain a strong contender in the meta. Angel of Vitality plays a vital role in the deck, acting as a huge anthem and rewarding your life-gain strategy.

Any time you would gain life, you gain one more of that amount, which isn’t a ton, but adds up over time. Then, once you hit 25 or more life, Angel of Vitality gets a bonus +2/+2, turning her into a 4/4 with flying, which can take down your opponent in just a few short turns.

5

Volley Veteran

Uncommon – $2.94

The Magic The Gathering card Volley Veteran by Olivier Bernard

Kindred decks get a lot of power in Foundations, with Goblins joining the ranks as well. With Volley Veteran, you get a solid way to deal with problematic creatures in play with very few ways for your opponents to interact with it.

Magic: The Gathering – The 10 Best Commanders In Foundations

Foundations is bringing all sorts of new and returning Magic: The Gathering Commanders to the game, but which are the best?

When Volley Veteran enters the battlefield, you get to deal damage to a creature equal to the number of Goblins you control. If you have five Goblins out, you’re blasting a creature for five damage, which can generally knock out most creatures until you hit the late game.

4

Youthful Valkyrie

Uncommon – $3.05

The Magic The Gathering card Youthful Valkyrie by Anna Steinbauer.

Angel decks get another boon with Youthful Valkyrie, an exceptionally solid card that grows bigger and bigger the longer the game goes on. For just two mana, you get a 1/3 Angel with flying and an ability that can keep it in the game for a long while.

Anytime another Angel you control enters the battlefield you get to put a +1/+1 counter on Youthful Valkyrie. While this starts off small, it won’t be a huge threat to your opponents for a few turns still, letting you get a few smaller hits in and saving your more threatening creatures from removal spells later in the game.

3

Bolt Bend

Uncommon – $3.16

The Magic The Gathering card Bolt Bend by Sveltin Velinov.

A surprisingly powerful card, Bolt Bend hasn’t been seen since 2019’s War of the Spark set, and while it isn’t the most valuable card from the set, it has slowly climbed up more and more since the set stopped being printed.

With a reprint in Foundations, Bolt Bend is not only back in Standard, but now a bit easier to pick up. The spell lets you change the target of a spell or ability with another target. While it costs four mana to cast normally, you can drop it down to just one red mana if you have a creature out with power four or more.

2

Biogenic Upgrade

Uncommon – $3.29

The Magic The Gathering card Biogenic Upgrade by Kev Fang.

Counter strategies are a very fun deck to build, and Biogenic Upgrade gives you a neat way to let those counters spiral out of control. While it does cost six mana, Biogenic Upgrade can give you a near-endless supply of tokens.

You get to deal out three +1/+1 counters to up to three different creatures, then double the number of +1/+1 counters on those creatures. You can take a creature with just two counters on it to four, putting it above what your opponent would consider to be fair trade when you move to combat, leaving them with not many choices on what to do.

1

Twinblade Paladin

Uncommon – $3.53

The Magic The Gathering card Twinblade Paladin by Jana Schirmer.

Twinblade Paladin is another card that hasn’t been seen for quite some time, last printed in Core Set 202, but returning in Foundations with a strong standing. This four-mana Human Knight gets a +1/+1 counter anytime you gain life.

Once you hit 25 or more life, Twinblade Paladin gets double strike, letting you deal out a ton of damage in just a few turns if you play it on turn four, or earlier if you have a little ramp. Keep the pressure up with some other Human strategies, and you’ll have a very strong deck on your hands.
