The second season of the live-action adaptation of the beloved animated series is set to take us deeper into the Earth Kingdom, where fans can expect to explore the grand city of Ba Sing Se. In a major casting announcement, Miya Cech will portray Toph Beifong, the master earthbender and fan-favorite member of Team Avatar. Now, Netflix has also unveiled the full supporting Earth Kingdom cast that will join Cech in bringing this iconic world to life.

Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action adaptation is making some changes to the acclaimed animated series out of necessity.

Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series has some thrilling updates for fans as Season 2 is bringing in a whopping eight new cast members! Joining the Earth Kingdom’s world is Justin Chien as King Kuei, the ruler of the Earth Kingdom; Chin Han as Long Feng, the formidable leader of Ba Sing Se’s secret police, the Dai Li; and Hoa Xuande as Professor Zei, the eccentric anthropologist obsessed with Wan Shi Tong’s Library. Crystal Yu takes on the role of Lady Beifong, Toph’s mother, while Amanda Zhou portrays Joo Dee, the charming guide to Ba Sing Se’s elite visitors. Lourdes Faberes steps into the shoes of General Sung, a top Earth Kingdom military commander, and Kelemete Misipeka brings the tough spirit of The Boulder, an earth-bending wrestling champ. Rounding out the new faces, Rekha Sharma will play Amita, a mysterious character possibly created just for the live-action series.

Season 1 of Avatar: The Last Airbender debuted on Netflix in February 2024, receiving mixed reactions but enough buzz to secure a second and third season, set to wrap up the live-action adaptation. Netflix has already confirmed the show’s renewal through Season 3, with the final chapter following the animated series “Book of Fire.” Executive producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani expressed excitement about continuing the journey, focusing on deepening character relationships as the story progresses into Season 2. The team is eager to recreate iconic scenes from the animated show while exploring new storylines not covered in the original. Raisani also hinted at condensing some of the anime’s content for the live-action version, but with the recent casting updates, it looks like fans can expect plenty of adventure and screen time in Ba Sing Se.

Notably, the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender has already made several tweaks to both characters and storylines, meaning that the newly introduced cast members may not match their animated counterparts down to every detail. These additions will join a talented returning lineup featuring Gordon Cormier, Ian Ousley, Kiawentiio, Elizabeth Yu, Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Momona Tamada, Daniel Dae Kim, and Thalia Tran. In exciting news, Miya Cech has also been cast as Toph Beifong for the series’ upcoming season.

Netflix hasn’t yet revealed the release date for Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2.
