Astarion is a fan-favorite character from BG3 and here’s his best build.

One such companion is Minthara. Her character has fascinated many and her strength is quite impressive too, as she’s a Paladin, one of the best classes in the game combining both strength and charisma. Here’s how to make the best build for Minthara.

Updated on November 19, 2024, by Anastasia Maillot: Without moving into multiclassing, Minthara’s build has been streamlined a bit with this update. A level-by-level guide has been added, along with a few additional pieces of gear that are beneficial to Paladins in general. This updated version also takes into account Honour Mode, a much more difficult version of the game, so a cleaner version of her stat distribution has been added, though her starting values are already quite good.

Who Is Minthara And Where To Recruit Her

Minthara, unlike most of the other possible companions the player meets, is not an origin character. This means the player cannot play as her from the get-go and can only hope she can join them as an ally. Minthara is a character that can either turn into an ally or be fought as an enemy boss, depending on the player’s choices in the game.

She is found in the Shattered Sanctum, inside the Goblin Camp as one of the three Goblin Leaders. If the player helps her raid the Grove, this could lead to some other companions possibly leaving the player’s party. The player must, however, wait for Act 2, to officially recruit her after they rescue her from the Moonrise Towers.

It’s also possible to recruit Minthara in Act 2 without raiding the Grove. Simply ensure that the last hit during the fight against her is a non-lethal one and knocks her unconscious. This will still complete the quest to take down the Goblin Camp leaders. Minthara will then appear in Act 2 in Moonrise Towers as usual and needs to be rescued.

Default Minthara

“Yes. My House trained me to be a soldier in Lolth’s service, and my mother showed me how to survive the perils of society. She taught me to be resilient and to guard my heart from those who cannot be trusted. Literally and figuratively.”

Minthara stands out as quite an interesting character in BG3, and one of the biggest reasons for that is that she’s quite powerful from the get-go. She belongs to the Drow race, specifically a Lolth-Sworn Drow. When it comes to her class, she’s a Paladin, which is arguably one of the very best classes in the game. Coupled with that, her background is the Noble. This gives her proficiencies in History and Persuasion. She also possesses proficiencies in Athletics, Intimidation, and Perception.

When it comes to her abilities, here’s how Minthara scores across the board. Given that Minthara becomes a companion so late in the game in Act 2, it’s unlikely she will be the party face, so there’s no need to rebalance her stats too much. Allocating one extra point from DEX or CON to Charisma might be the only improvement needed here.
