These are the abilities that will help you get through Dragon Quest 3 Remake.

Edina is a great choice, being so close to all the other areas you’ve been to so far. Except it’s not quite that easy to enter, being a tad isolationist compared to most other places in the game. It is essential to the plot that you get in there eventually though, so better to do it sooner rather than later.

Where Is Edina?

DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake the party after using fading jenny to enter edina.

First things first, you need to get a ship of your own. That’s a pretty easy task and happens relatively early in the game. You just need to travel to Baharata to get some Black Pepper for the King of Portoga. In return, you get a wonderful sea-faring vessel, free to sail your way to Edina.

With the map of DQ3 being analogous to reality, Edina is located to the north-west in what is supposed to be England. This is directly east of the Faerie Village, and north-west of Portoga right after you get your ship. It’s only a short sail away.

How To Find Fading Jenny

Once you actually land in Edina though, it’s not quite so simple to enter. In fact, you can’t enter at all. If you approach the soldier he will flatly turn you away with no recourse. Turn your attention to the nearby bard instead.

They will inform you of a special plant called Fading Jenny that can turn one invisible, granting you the perfect means of entering Edina without permission. The bard does not tell you where to find Fading Jenny though, that would be too easy.

You’ll have to set sail again for the far reaches of the world to find this plant as it does not grow natively in this continent. So we have two choices – Lanson and Persistence.

Lanson can be found to the west of Aliahan, and is analagous to Australia. Once you land in Lanson, the general store will sell Fading Jenny as a regular item. On the opposite side of the world in the middle of the eastern continent, analagous to North America, you can find the settlement of Persistence. Same as Lanson, you can buy Fading Jenny from the merchants there.

With Fading Jenny in hand, return to Edina and use it from your inventory. This will cause the party to temporarily turn invisible, letting you walk right past the guard outside.

Characters also have unique dialogue if spoken to while invisible, so make sure to chat up everyone you see.

Critical Path

Once inside Edina Castle, you’re free to run around in full visibility. If you’re inside, then it must be with permission as far as everyone else is concerned. Unless you went to Persistence to get your Fading Jenny, you might not actually know what you’re looking for in Edina though.

You are searching for the Bottomless Pot, an artefact that was stolen from the people of Persistence when an expedition from Edina went to their land. It is hidden below the castle, which is graciously not overly large anyway.

From the entrance, simply take the second left, where there will be a nun to allow you to save your game. Save, and then head down the stairs. This will bring you to floor B1, and an overall simple but deceptively challenging puzzle. After beating it, the door behind in the north of the room will unlock.

Enter this room to find the Bottomless Pot stored away in a chest, as well as the explanation that it is originally from Persistence, and that you can bring to to a rocky reef in the ocean to use it.

Optional Items

Like the nation they are based on, Edina Castle is packed with treasures just waiting to be redistributed, and whose possession would they be better in that the one trying to save the world? After gaining the Bottomless Pot, check around for these final few treasures.

Solving The Boulder Puzzle

When you enter the basement floor of Edina, you are just one step away from getting the Bottomless pot. You just have to push the boulders in the correct order first. This should be quite simple, though it can be quite easy to overthink it.

Here’s the order to push each boulder:

  • Push the rightmost boulder down once to open the way to the left.
  • Push the centre boulder to the left to free the spot it was occupying.
  • Push the leftmost boulder so it is now one spot to the right of the centre boulder.
  • Run all the way around, push the rightmost boulder north, then walk around it and push it back south to reach the leftmost boulder.
  • Push the leftmost boulder onto one of the three blue squares. It doesn’t matter which.
  • Push the centre boulder to the left all the way to the water, then circle around it and push it north.
  • Now push it to the east and north again onto the blue squares.
  • Push the rightmost boulder one step north, then push it all the way to the left until it’s beside the body of water.
  • Repeat the process as for the last boulder until it’s on the final blue square.

If you push a boulder into the water, you will have to reset the puzzle to bring it back.

With all the boulders in place, the door at the front of the room will open, leading you directly to the Bottomless Pot. With that in hand and all the other items picked up, Edina Castle is complete.
