The CEO of GTA The Trilogy Definitive Edition developer Grove Street Games has responded to the game’s latest update. Though GTA 6 is now its main focus, Rockstar recently launched a fix for the remastered versions of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas which reintroduced the weather and sky effects from the original editions of each game. The opening ‘splash’ screen was also changed – the new version excludes any mention of Grove Street Games. The developer is still listed in the closing credits, however, but immediately following the update, there was speculation that mentions of Grove Street Games may have been removed from GTA The Trilogy entirely. In light of this, the developer’s CEO describes the update as “dick move” on behalf of Rockstar, and says that it contains fixes that “stayed out of players’ hands for years.”
The GTA 6 release date is still inbound. Meanwhile, the transformative update for The Trilogy Definitive Edition alters the weather and atmosphere effects in GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, making the remastered versions of the open-world games more closely resemble their original incarnations. Thomas Williamson is CEO of Grove Street Games, the developer of the Definitive Edition. Following claims that mentions of GSG had been scrubbed entirely by the new update, the CEO posts a response on X, formerly Twitter.
“Speaking entirely hypothetically,” Williamson says, “it’s a dick move to remove primary developers from credits in an update, especially when an update includes hundreds of fixes that were provided by those developers that stayed out of players’ hands for years.”
The classic weather effects now added to the PC version of GTA The Trilogy Definitive Edition were released for the mobile version of the sandbox game in 2023. While Grove Street Games’ name is not present in the new version of the start-up splash screen, each member of the studio is named in the closing credits.
PCGamesN has contacted both Thomas Williamson and Rockstar Games, and will update this story with any further information or comment.
