Key Takeaways
- A datamine of Pokemon TCG Pocket may have revealed when we will be getting new cards to collect.
- If accurate, the game will get an additional booster pack on December 16.
- The wait for a whole new expansion will be a little longer, currently slated for the end of January, again, if the datamine is accurate.
Between the 30 million of us playing and the $12 million spent during its first four days, it’s probably fair to say Pokemon TCG Pocket has taken the world by storm during its first week and a half. However, those of you who are quite a bit more gripped than others might be wondering when exactly we’re going to be getting new sets and expansions, and a datamine of the mobile game may have revealed when that will be.
Information regarding when we might have more than just the Pikachu, Charizard, and Mewtwo packs to choose from comes via information from a datamine that has been shared by Centro Leaks, the account that distributed a lot of the details from last month’s Game Freak leak. If the Pocket datamine is accurate, then the app will get what appears to be a special booster back on December 16, and then a whole new expansion at the end of January.

If you’re wondering why you never land heads in Pocket, it’s because this guy has them all.
According to the datamine, the December expansion is listed as A1a. Pocket’s Genetic Apex set, which is currently the only one available, has been dubbed A1, hence the assumption that A1a will be an additional booster pack rather than a whole new set. However, the one currently listed to be rolled out at the end of January has been labeled A2 so could well be the first time we get a completely new set in the game.

And A Whole New Expansion In The New Year
Potentially revealed in the same datamine is a new card rarity and the addition of Rare Picks to Wonder Picks which will seemingly allow you to guarantee cards of a certain rarity when choosing from other players’ previously opened packs. While there has been some dispute about this, at present it seems you can’t Wonder Pick cards that are Immersive or Crown Rares. The blurry image supposedly from the datamine has five rare Fire-type cards to choose from.
This a leak for now and all of the above should be taken with a pinch of salt until it’s all confirmed to be true or it actually happens. Even if the datamine is accurate, which seems likely, there’s always a chance dates change and even that proposed features and mechanics are scrapped entirely. If people continue to spend a lot of money on Pocket, The Pokemon Company might hold off on adding new packs and expansions until spending starts to dip and it feels like the game needs it.
