Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.1 will be released in just a few days, and to let everyone know what to expect when that fated day arrives, Square Enix has released a set of preliminary patch notes to detail all the changes, big and small. We already know about things like the Echoes of Vana’Diel Alliance Raid, the new Hildibrand and Pelupelu Allied Society quests, and even smaller additions like the new PvP gear, so this was a chance for us to dive in and look at the smaller quality of life tweaks.
Brushing past the slightly bizarre improvements to our toes, there is one very important tweak for those of you out there that consider yourself minion collectors. There are some minions out there that can be a massive pain in the butt to grab, mostly thanks to them being exclusively tied to dungeon drops.
Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.1 Is Improving Starbird Minion’s Drop Chance
One of these minions is Starbird, a minion that has a chance to drop upon completion of the dungeon The Dead Ends in Endwalker. For various story reasons that we won’t go into here, Starbird is a very popular minion in the game, but it’s always been a pain to get, as its drop rate in The Dead Ends is horrific. You often have players who have done hundreds of runs in that one dungeon just to grab the Starbird, only for it to pop up once in a blue moon.
To make matters worse, you actually have to roll for it too, so there’s the chance someone else might just pinch it even if it does pop up. And then, to make matters even worse on top of that, you can’t actually trade for the Starbird, or buy it on the Market Board, meaning your only option is to endlessly run The Dead Ends and hope you get lucky.

It feels so good to finally get my hands on the rewards I’ve coveted for so long.
Thankfully, the suffering is over for all you Starbird hunters. With the introduction of Patch 7.1 next week, the drop rate for Starbird in The Dead Ends will be increased, and while we don’t know how much by, we can likely assume it will be a significant amount since it was addressed at all.
Similarly, the minions you can earn by beating the dungeons Ktisis Hyperboreia and The Aitiascope (those being the Caduceus and Tiny Troll respectively) will also have their drop rates increased, meaning three extremely difficult to obtain, untradeable minions will soon be much easier to add to your collection, and that alone should be enough to celebrate Patch 7.1. Time to start spamming The Dead Ends once again.
