Fallout 4: 7 Best Items To Sell To Merchants

Players won’t need everything they come across in Fallout 4. The following items are best sold to merchants for a quick profit.

Whether the player is interested in solid armor pieces that boost their stats, one-of-a-kind weapons with special rare effects, or lots of junk, there are a few merchants that are worth paying a visit to pick up their cool and unique pieces. Just keep in mind that some of these items aren’t cheap, so it’s important to load up on Caps first.

Updated November 7, 2024 by Benjamin Joe: There are lots of great merchants in Fallout 4. While most of them are very well-known, there are a few that are a little harder to come by. Merchants that are harder to find tend to have better items for sale.

Because of this, this update aims to put in a few of the lesser-known but nonetheless great merchants that can be found around the ruins of the Commonwealth. From the broken buildings that are littered all over post-war Boston to the dangerous island of Far Harbor, there are plenty of places to visit to trade goods and buy unique and interesting items.

It is important to note that players can get their hands on some great merchants at their settlements. However, only one of them made it onto the list below. This is due to bugs. Unfortunately, there are a few bugs that affect settlement merchants in
Fallout 4.
These bugs can make it impossible for console players to trade with certain settlement merchants.

1 Smiling Larry

A Random Encounter

Smiling Larry from Fallout 4

  • Junk, Random Items: A Random Array Of Items
  • A Recruitable Trader

Smiling Larry is one of the most difficult merchants to track down. He is a random encounter that players can trigger by visiting certain locations on the map. Since there’s no guarantee that he’ll spawn, the player may need to repeatedly reload their game to find him.

Once the player has found Smiling Larry they can purchase his wares. He doesn’t have all that much in his inventory. However, if the player recruits him and sends him to one of their settlements, then he can be placed behind a Trading Emporium, and he will sell the Reckoning. This weapon is a unique variant of the Ripper. It makes whoever uses it takes 15% less damage while standing still. While it’s not exactly the best weapon in the game, it is still surprisingly powerful, and definitely worth picking up. It is worth noting that there have been some issues around players not being able to talk to Smiling Larry, but this issue seems like it’s mostly limited to those on PC.

2 Allen Lee

Far Harbor’s Local Merchant

Fallout 4 Admiral's Friend

  • Gun: He Sells Two Unique Legendary Weapons As Well As A Healthy Mix Of Other Items

After arriving at Far Harbor, one of the first merchants the player will come by is Allen Lee. This guy is relatively nice, provided the player isn’t rude. He is the owner of the Gun Store and he sells some pretty interesting things. His collection of items does change every couple of days, however his best items are two unique weapons.

Players can purchase the Admiral’s Friend and The Fish Catcher From Allen Lee. The Admiral’s Friend is a harpoon gun that does double damage if the enemy hit is at full health. The Fish Catcher is a unique pole hook. Its legendary effect allows players to attack enemies for 40% less VATS points. These weapons can be pretty fun to use, and with the right perks, they can be quite powerful.

3 Slim

A Little Known Chem Trader

Slim in Fallout 4

  • Chems: A Healthy Selection Of Narcotics

Slim doesn’t get mentioned all that often. While he is a somewhat niche trader in terms of popularity, his stock of Chems is enough to keep all addicts fueled and ready for action.

He can be found slightly west of Hester’s Consumer Robotics and east of D.B. Technical High School. Because of where he is based, it’s easy to miss him. He doesn’t have anything unique, but for those who can’t get enough Chems, he’s a great vendor to visit.

4 Myrna

A Synth-Hating Junk Trader

Myrna in Fallout 4

  • Junk: All Sorts Of Junk Items

Located right in the center of Diamond City, Myrna is a strange character. Her distrust of people probably doesn’t help her business. But, for those who are willing to put up with her poor customer service, she’s one of the best people to go to in the Commonwealth for junk.

Since junk is needed for crafting and settlement building, she can be a very useful trader to visit. While she’s not so crucial early on, as the player unlocks new settlements, they will quickly find themselves needing more junk for building purposes.

5 Arturo

Diamond City’s Arms Dealer

Arturo in Fallout 4

  • Ammo: Most Ammo Types
  • Unique Armor Piece: Protector’s Left Armguard
  • Unique Armor Piece: Protector’s Right Armguard
  • Unique Weapon: Old Faithful

Arturo is Diamond City’s biggest seller of weapons and armor pieces. His inventory is extensive. He also sells a Power Armor Frame and most types of ammo. He’s a popular vendor in the game that most players visit regularly to stock up on supplies.

He’s the perfect vendor for endgame settlement building. Not only does he sell aluminum, but his extensive collection of weapons and armor can come in handy for kitting out settlers with items to fend off any attackers.

6 Kleo

Goodneighbor’s Friendly Assaultron Merchant

Fallout 4 KLEO The Merchant At Goodneighbor

  • Unique Weapon: The Partystarter
  • Unique Armor Piece: Devastator’s Chestpiece
  • Unique Armor Piece: Devastator’s Right Greave

Kleo is an interesting merchant as she is the only Assaultron in the game that works as a merchant. She resides in Goodneighbor, and according to her, she has a weapon for every situation. She’s a funny character due to her dark sense of humor and is quite well-liked among the residents of Goodneighbor.

While she may be a fairly popular resident, should the player hack her terminal, they will discover that she had quite a sinister plan for a few of her neighbors. Her plan involved a lot of murder. Luckily, her plan didn’t take shape.

As for her wares, there is one item that makes her a pretty interesting merchant: the Partystarter. The Partystarter is a unique missile launcher that can be purchased from her. While it isn’t the best weapon in the game, it is really fun to use.

She also sells two other one-of-a-kind items. They are the Devastator’s Chestpiece and the Devastator’s Right Greave. They are both unique armor pieces that are definitely worth picking up.

7 Cricket

A Traveling Merchant

Bunker Hill in Fallout 4

  • Unique Weapon: The Spray n’ Pray
  • Junk Items: Lead, Silver, And Springs

Cricket is a traveling merchant that is primarily based in Bunker Hill. She can be found wandering and selling her wares in various places across the map, such as Diamond City and Vault 81. While she may look feeble, she is hiding a secret.

She is actually an informant on Runaway Synths for the Synth Retention Bureau. While this is pretty interesting, the reason why she makes such a great merchant is down to one thing that she sells: the Spray n’ Pray.

It is a very powerful weapon that can take down pretty much every enemy in the game. It is a submachine gun with a very powerful effect in that it offers explosive damage. This means that each shot deals 15 points of explosive damage. With the right perks, this can be an incredibly powerful weapon.

8 Alexis Combes

Vault 81’s Merchant

Alexis Combes Traded in Fallout 4

  • Unique Weapon: The Overseer’s Guardian
  • Unique Armor Piece: Destroyer’s Right Leg
  • Unique Armor Piece: Overseer’s Left And Right Arms

Alexis Combes can be found in Vault 81. She is the vault’s local merchant. She sells a variety of items, including some of the rarer building materials, like fiber optics and nuclear materials. There are a few reasons why Alexis is a great merchant. Firstly, players can get a 10% discount on her wares if they save Austin’s life during the “Hole in The Wall” quest.

Fallout 4: 7 Items You Should Never Sell To Merchants

While some items are completely fine to sell for extra Caps in Fallout 4, these are ones that you should hold onto.

Not only this, but she also sells a few one-of-a-kind items, like the Overseer’s Guardian. This is a unique combat rifle that shoots two projectiles instead of one. She also sells three unique armor pieces: the Destroyer’s Right Leg, and the Overseer’s Left and Right Arm. Thanks to the 10% discount, she is a very good vendor to go to for the rare items mentioned above and to stock up on junk for building and crafting.

9 Vault-Tec Rep

A Pre-War Reminder

Vault-Tec Rep Fallout 4

  • Unique Armor Piece: Apocalypse Left Greave
  • Building Supplies: Lots Of Junk

Players first encounter the Vault-Tec Rep before the bombs drop. He is the salesman who visits the player’s home just before the attack on Boston. The rep survives the blast and is turned into a Ghoul. Despite this, he hasn’t lost his charm as a salesman.

Players can find him in Hotel Rexford in Goodneighbor. After chatting with him, it is possible to convince him to come and set up shop in Sanctuary Hills. It is here that he can become a useful merchant to the player.

He can be assigned as a level four merchant for the trading emporium. This is the highest level a merchant can be. He sells a great selection of rare junk like military duct tape and military ammo. He also sells the Apocalypse Left Greave, a one-of-a-kind piece of armor.

Players can buy his junk, scrap it all, and reset his inventory by waiting two in-game days. Because he is located in Sanctuary Hills, it is much easier to store all the junk that the player has purchased, making him one of the best merchants in Fallout 4.

10 Proctor Teagan

The Brotherhood Of Steel Quartermaster

Fallout 4 - Prydwen Armory Protector Teagan

  • Unique Armor Piece: Commando Chest Piece
  • Unique Armor Piece: Commando Helmet
  • Unique Power Armor Piece: Honor
  • Unique Power Armor Piece: Vengeance
  • Unique Weapon: Death From Above
  • Unique Weapon: Sentinel’s Plasmacaster

Proctor Teagan can be found on board the Prydwen. He sells a variety of items, but most of the items he sells aren’t particularly interesting. That is, with the exception of some unique armor pieces and weapons.

It is important to note that most of the unique items sold by Proctor Teagan can only be obtained after the player has completed certain quests for the Brotherhood of Steel. Doing certain missions for the BOS will award players with various ranks. Upon reaching certain ranks, more rare weapons and armor will be available for purchase from Proctor Teagan.
