Mario & Luigi: Brothership‘s combat offers a unique twist on turn-based combat as you’re able to still control the characters to determine how well they attack or if they dodge and counter an attack. While there are a lot of ways you can directly influence the combat, there are still some factors that are out of your hands, one of which is Lucky hits.
Lucky hits are this game’s version of critical hits, and there is a challenge for landing 250 of them. Lucky hits deal a lot more damage than usual, so you’ll want to increase your odds of getting them be it for the challenge or just to deal more damage.

How To Get Lucky Hits In Mario & Luigi: Brothership
Getting a lucky hit is completely up to chance as long as you get a good or excellent on the attack. Failing the correct button commands when attacking leads to a failed attack which can’t be lucky. For the most part, completing the challenge of getting 250 Lucky hits can be done naturally through playing the game, though there are a few things you can do to increase the frequency you get Lucky ratings.
Using the jump attack with both Mario and Luigi is one trick, as completing the combo of jumps leads to two hits landing, with both having a chance of being lucky. While the hammer may do more damage in a single attack, it will only have one chance of getting a lucky. Your chances of getting Lucky are also determined by the brother’s Stache stat, which Luigi will naturally have a higher value in. Prioritizing Luigi for jump combo attacks is something that can be done early on and will help increase the frequency you get Lucky Ratings.
Your progress on the Lucky Star challenge can be found in the challenge menu, which is under the adventure log in the main menu.

How To Increase Stache Stat In Mario & Luigi: Brothership
Both brothers will have their Stache stat naturally increase as they level up, with Luigi always staying ahead and getting more with every few levels compared to Mario. On top of just leveling up, players can increase either brother’s Stache stat by:
- Using Stache Beans
- Equipping accessories that add Stache
Beans are incredibly useful and limited, so be sure to think twice before using them.
While these things can be used to have the brother’s Stache stat get closer, it’s best to prioritize Luigi as getting Lucky is already his specialty, and furthering his already high Stache will make him your go-to Lucky hitter.
