Crafting is a crucial life skill that every gamer needs to learn in The Forest. It lets you create helpful items to fight off cannibals and survive the dangers of the peninsula, including medicine, weapons, light sources, and more. To make these items, you’ll need to gather a variety of materials. One such material is Rope.
While you can find rope in different spots of The Forest‘s world, getting there isn’t always easy. Players will need to go deeper into the island to reach these locations, and doing so can prove to be quite challenging for those who don’t know exactly where to go. For those unsure, here’s how to get Rope in The Forest.

Sticks are needed to construct a vast range of essential items in The Forest. Here are the best ways to obtain them.
Where To Find Rope In The Forest
After surviving the plane crash at the beginning of the game, you can find your first pair of ropes in any nearby Cannibal Village. Since the crash landing is random, however, it can be tough to guess where these villages might be. The easiest way to get to one is by either wandering around in the wilderness or getting your hands on the Map and Compass. That said, there are multiple enemy villages scattered around the island:
- There is one by the lakeside.
- There is another near the seaside.
- There is one on a giant rock deep in the forest.
- And there is also the main cannibal village.
Start by looking around in all directions to see if any cannibal huts are close by. If you don’t see one, pick a direction and keep walking until you find it.
These villages are usually packed with cannibals. You might come across a few in normal mode, but in hard mode, they’ll spawn in larger groups. So, stay alert for any signs of danger and bring along the Plane Axe for defense.
For those who don’t know, you can pick up the Plane Axe from the body of the dead flight attendant in the plane wreck.
Once you reach a Cannibal Village, check each hut; at least one or two will have ropes hanging from the ceilings. These ropes are green and pretty easy to find. Just hit the ‘E’ button to add them to your inventory when you spot them.

Players can also find ropes on small wooden boats near lakes or other bodies of water; there are usually about two beige ropes on these boats. Moreover, you can grab three more ropes from the Yacht. One is tied to the mast, and the other two are on the deck.
If you’re playing in hard survival mode, watch out for predators like sharks in the ocean. To deal with them, make sure you have a spear or an arrow ready in your inventory.
How To Use Rope In The Forest
Rope is a key crafting material for a bunch of useful items in The Forest. You’ll need it for many small and advanced traps in the game, like the Molotov Wire Trap, Noose Trap, and Rope Swing Trap. Here are some other core recipes that use rope:
- Crafted Axe: 1 Stick + 1 Rock + 1 Rope
- Water Skin: 2 Deer Skin + 1 Rope
- Glider: 6 Bone + 8 Rabbit Fur + 8 Rope + 2 Arm + 1 Head + 32 Stick
Nights on the peninsula get super dark and chilly, especially when it rains. So, don’t forget to craft a Warmsuit using rope to keep your character warm and avoid dying out there.
