Here’s how to set up and customize funerals, and what kind of activities that can be done during and after the funeral event in the Sims 4: Life and Death.

How to Plan a Funeral?

Planning a funeral in The Sims 4 Life and Death expansion is similar to organizing any other social event, provided the planning Sim had any relationship with or is a family member of the departed (essentially any ghost). The death does not need to be recent; players can organize a funeral for any Sim who passed away before the release of this pack, even if the save file was created beforehand. Players can even plan a funeral event several times for the same Sim.

Players should be looking for a ghost NPC called Waylon Warez to be able to purchase his goods, and more.

To start planning, players simply need to open the calendar, select a date, and click on the “Add a Funeral” section. This will prompt the “Plan an Event” screen, where they can choose the departed Sim, invite up to 8 guests, and even hire additional mourners or entertainers to add a sense of crowd or uplifting moments to the occasion. They can also select a dress code for guests, including attire type and color, though guests will default to formal or party attire if no specific choice is made.

Players can then choose a minimum of three activities for the funeral. If the Sim left a will, certain activities may be marked with a small icon, suggesting they align with the will’s stipulations—though these are optional. The selectable activities are as follows in the game’s order:

Mourn Deceased

Serve Food

Give Eulogy

Listen to Music

Plant Something

Moment of Silence

Light Candles

Give Toasts

Dancing

Use Ghost Mastery for Good

Use Ghost Mastery for Evil

Play Instrument

Give a Lighthearted Eulogy

Give Mournful Eulogy

After this, players need to choose the event venue and time as usual. The funeral event can be planned in the house of the guests (or the host), or in a public venue. With the event planned, all that’s left is to wait for the chosen date and time to gather in remembrance.

The Sims 4 Life and Death Funeral Activities

The Funeral event in The Sims 4: Life and Death expansion pack is a reward event, meaning players can aim to complete as many event goals as possible to earn a Gold Medal rating. This involves not only performing the pre-selected activities but also engaging in various funeral-specific interactions available through the Funeral Pie Menu. This menu can be accessed by clicking on funeral items, such as the eulogy podium, or by interacting with other Sims or self-nteraction with the active Sim. If players have the deceased Sim’s headstone or urn, they can place it in a casket for additional actions.

Throughout the event, players can customize the venue by accessing Cemetery items and community decorations to create a respectful, personal setting through the Build Mode. This can allow players to customize the venue even further based on their choice – however if players aren’t feeling particularly in need to do so, typically the pre-made Graveyard lots in the Ravenwood will serve as a good location to be able to manage most of the Funeral related activities in a common setting.

Sims attending the funeral may experience a variety of moodlets tied to their grieving process. While most will feel somber, certain Sims may feel unexpectedly happy, depending on their traits, their relationship with the departed, and the funeral’s mood.

Once the event concludes, guests will leave, but household members will remain at the venue. This allows players to retrieve the urn if they want to relocate it afterward. They can customize the urn or headstone, place it in a crypt or gravesite, decorate the resting place, or simply keep it in their inventory if they have a preferred location for it later on.
