Key Takeaways

Spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard ahead.Unsurprisingly, BioWare has brought back some old characters for The Veilguard. This includes a couple of fan-favourite companions who were completely left out of the promotional material, making it a nice surprise for fans.

Fan Favourite Companions Return In Dragon Age: The Veilguard

In the main story, Dragon Age: The Veilguard players will come across both Isabela and Dorian. They look a little different, given the ten-year time jump between Inquisition and Veilguard, but we can see that they’re both still knocking about.

In fact, if you pick the Lords of Fortune background, Isabela will be your faction contact, so your Rook would have known her before the story kicked off. Our favourite pirate queen has certainly kept herself busy in between games.

Then, there are the returning characters we already knew about. Varric and Solas are the most obvious, as they appear from the very beginning of the game. There’s also the Inquisitor, who returning players can recreate to look like their one from the last game and input some of their choices. And of course, as was revealed in one of the trailers, Morrigan is back, now with a slight change of wardrobe.

It’s impressive that we have as many returning characters as we do, given that implementing them in a way that respects our playthroughs of the previous games would be been very difficult. This is because, for the first time in the series, The Veilguard doesn’t import our entire world state, only asking for three decisions made in Inquisition. This means we can’t say anything about our Wardens and Hawkes, making it harder to bring back characters who could have wildly different fates.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is out now, available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
