DreamHack Dallas dominated the spotlight in the week of May 19-25, but before that, online cup competitions were an enticing appetizer before the main event. herO and ByuN split the three weekly cups, which in hindsight, served as an intriguing backdrop for the chaotic weekend (or not! this is a spoiler-free zone).

May 19: WardiTV Mondays #36

herO improved his standing as one of the Dallas title favorites in WardiTV Mondays, taking a 3-2 victory over fellow contender Clem in the finals. Perhaps not wanting to give away anything before a major tournament—or perhaps just playing to their natural styles—both players leaned heavily on their offense in a short but exciting series (VOD).

May 19: Monday Night Weeklies #17

herO continued his roll in Monday Night Weeklies, toppling online-only Protoss MaxPax in two 2-0 series to win the weekly title. MaxPax’s recent struggles to get fast expansions to work in PvP continued in their matches, with herO’s early-game chicanery throwing a wrench in three such attempts (VOD).

May 20: PiGosaur Cup #32

ByuN claimed the final cup before Dallas, winning a narrow 3-2 finals over MaxPax. The recent trend of Terran offense vs Protoss defense continued here, with ByuN’s Marine-SCV facetanking devastating storms to clinch the win in game five (VOD).
