Where to Find Secret Grand Hub Bird Nest in Monster Hunter Wilds

The “Gigacrake” (as colloquially known by the player community), which is essentially a hilariously big downy crake bird, resides at its nest in the Grand Hub, of all places. However, you won’t find it roosting anywhere out in the open, and it’s a bit of an obstacle course to get to its secret abode.

Start from the Grand Hub’s main entrance area and immediately turn right (seen above) toward the path that takes you through an underpass of stone pillars and back out into the open. Immediately turn left and look for a vertical vine path next to the small wooden structure.

Climb the vine path until it brings you up to what looks like a gigantic monster ribcage structure, with you standing on one of the bones. Look across to the cliffside on your right, and you’ll need to jump to the nearest ledge, to the right of the first waterfall (seen below).

It’s not the easiest jump to make, so getting a running start is highly recommended to maximize your distance. Once you make it across to the ledge, look left and jump across the gap at the waterfall to the next ledge over. Keep running until you see the next waterfall (and the Barrel Bowling mini-game can be seen below nearby, for reference).

The Gigacrake’s nest is hidden behind this waterfall, which has another ledge you can jump onto to access it. Get a small running start if needed and leap to the ledge behind the waterfall, and you’ll come face-to-face with the superbly fluffy Gigacrake and its nest full of Downy Crake fledglings.

As it turns out, there’s more to this cute easter egg (pun not intended?) than meets the eye. While the presence of the Gigacrake and its secret nest may seem oddly random, it’s very likely a throwback to a similar owl creature in Monster Hunter Rise called a Cohoot, which also had a special nest in Elgado you could visit if you knew where to look.

What are Nest Trinkets in Monster Hunter Wilds

When you pay a visit to the secret Gigacrake’s nest in Monster Hunter Wilds, you may very well find a special treasure in its nest waiting for you. It’ll be labeled as a ‘Nest Trinket‘, and you can pick it up like any other item in the game. When you do, it will reveal itself to be a random assortment of valuable items. Sometimes it will be one item, and other times it will be several items.

These items can range from ones you use in battle to others you can use for crafting or ones to sell for extra Zenny (such as Steel Eggs). After you encounter the Gigacrake’s nest for the first time and retrieve the Nest Trinket, you will have to wait for another to spawn. It’s not explicitly clear yet what facilitates the respawn of Nest Trinkets, but using the Rest trick doesn’t seem to work for this particular situation. You also currently can’t use Rest at the Grand Hub.

Instead, completing hunts may be the best bet, as that seems to spawn Nest Trinkets more often than anything else. Finish at least one hunt (preferably a few for better odds of more and better items) and return to the Gigacrake’s nest. There may not be a Nest Trinket available right away, but if you wait a few minutes as the bird goes through its various adorable animations, one should eventually spawn.

Nest Trinkets aren’t necessarily meant to be an efficient and reliable means of farming items or Zenny compared to other methods or rare item sources, such as the Support Ship, but it still makes for a fun and cute encounter during your adventures.
