This new Minecraft creature will be the Happy Ghast, an adorable smiling variant of the mob that scares players who go to the Nether. The Happy Ghast spawns when a Ghastling matures, resulting in a passive monster that flies around aimlessly. It will follow any player who has a snowball, and approach those who have a harness. As a result, players can use the creature to fly around Minecraft‘s biomes with up to three other people, making exploration even more entertaining. In an adorable image sequence, they show a Minecraft player building when, suddenly, they fall off the Happy Ghast. The mob then promptly shoots a snowball, turning into a snow block that cushions the player’s fall and prevents them from taking damage. While regular Ghasts throw fireballs that damage players and blocks around them, Happy Ghasts are harmless.

While Minecraft players liked the OP’s idea, some argued about the feasibility of adding this interaction to the game, and how it would be a potential “nightmare” for developers. To make it “less broken,” one Redditor suggested that the snowball be optional, with the player having to give it to Happy Ghast first for the mechanics to work. A second comment had another equally inventive idea, which would be to craft a lead to attach to the mob. If the player were to fall, the lead would be like a harness to reduce speed, making the Happy Ghast act like a balloon. Another player wondered if it is possible to crouch while riding the mob, which would also be useful to avoid falling accidentally.

The adorable Happy Ghast was just one of the announcements made at Minecraft Live 2025. Spring to Life Drop is now available, adding new features such as variants for pigs, chickens, and cows, and more sounds to blocks. Another new feature revealed by Mojang is the graphic update called Vibrant Visuals, which will arrive in the future to improve lighting and water effects, enhancing the game’s visuals natively.
