Big things are coming to Monster Hunter Wilds soon, both in a literal and figurative sense. April 4 is set to be a monumental day for the latest entry in Capcom’s monster-hunting franchise, as it will bring an update that involves the return of a popular monster known as the Mizutsune. The fearsome aquatic leviathan is sure to cause havoc and provide tough battles as soon as it makes its way into the game, making for a challenge that many players are looking forward to experiencing. But its addition also leads to speculation, particularly about whether the monster’s addition could eventually lead to a prominent feature from a previous Monster Hunter entry being brought back.
Since Mizutsune’s introduction in Monster Hunter Generations, it has become a creature that fans look forward to seeing with every entry. Its more recent reappearance in Monster Hunter Rise was received very well, as, aside from providing the challenge it’s expected to bring, it synergized well with that game’s Wyvern Riding feature. The ability to control the leviathan or any creature in how it moves and attacks, even temporarily, was a great way of livening up the combat experience, which is why it feels like a missed opportunity that Wyvern Riding is absent from Wilds. However, given the announcement of Mizutsune’s return via the March 25 update showcase, perhaps this creature will be a stepping stone for the feature coming back in Monster Hunter Wilds, as it could absolutely enhance the combat of the new release.

Why Wyvern Riding Should Return to Monster Hunter Wilds
The introduction of Wyvern Riding in Monster Hunter Rise certainly improved players’ experiences with the game, and it could easily do the same for the latest entry if it makes a comeback. Even if the feature isn’t a surprise addition alongside the Mizutsune, future updates have the opportunity to bring it back, along with the benefits it can provide:
- Wyvern Riding would improve Monster Hunter Wilds‘ mounting feature, allowing players to do more than just ride and attack on whatever it is that they are on.
- It incentivizes players to change their usual attack patterns, as Wyvern Riding provides new benefits such as being able to use the monster to attack others.
- It can make multiple target hunts and having multiple monsters on screen become something to look forward to rather than dread, as Wyvern Riding would give players an extra stylish and entertaining edge in dealing with numerous hostiles.
Although reintroducing Wyvern Riding may be difficult, Capcom should strongly consider putting in the effort to bring it back. The feature can enhance the overall quality of Monster Hunter Wilds if executed well, and with there surely being players who want to see it return, adding it back would be a logical move.
Wyvern Riding Can Be Used To Bring Another Popular Feature Into Monster Hunter Wilds
If Wyvern Riding were to return, then it could lead to the reintroduction of yet another feature that Monster Hunter Wilds players miss, Wirebugs. Both were introduced in the previous game and were highly praised for how they took combat in a new and more engaging direction. One could even say that Wyvern Riding wouldn’t exist without Wirebugs, given how the latter is necessary to perform the former. Alongside Wyvern Riding, Wirebugs could enhance Monster Hunter Wilds‘ exploration aspect via all the movement and traversal options they bring.
Among the different mechanics seen in all the Monster Hunter games, Wyvern Riding may be the most popular currently missing from Wilds. The imminent addition of Mizutsune to Monster Hunter Wilds could help justify its eventual return, especially if more Wyverns are added later, but it’s ultimately Capcom’s decision. Players simply have to wait and see if they eventually end up having near full control of a monster again.
