Summary
- The hotly-anticipated Path to Menzoberranzan custom campaign has shared some new screenshots ahead of its Spring demo.
- They give us a better glimpse at its rendition of the Underdark, where the City of Spiders is nestled.
Last year, Baldur’s Gate 3 fans announced that they were remaking and expanding upon Waukeen’s Promenade from the second game with an ambitious new custom campaign.
The Promenade is one of the seven Athkatla districts, ie the capital city of Amn.
But it’s not just the Promenade that we’ll be visiting. Path to Menzoberranzan, as you can probably guess, will also take us to the City of Spiders, an underground metropolis nestled deep within the Underdark. And ahead of the Spring demo teased back in January, the team has shared some new screenshots of its stunning take on this sprawling subterranean grotto.
The Team Is Also Recreating Irenicus’ Dungeon From Baldur’s Gate 2
The Underdark isn’t the only underground locale these fans are revisiting. We’re also venturing back to Irenicus’ Dungeon, a key area from Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. “Our aim is to include two big locations,” project leader Tomobamba told VG247 of the upcoming demo. “Waukeen’s Promenande – [that’s] gonna be much bigger than in BG2, for example the houses and buildings surrounding it will be accessible – and Irenicus Dungeon”.
This is where Baldur’s Gate 2 begins, as the player encounters returning favourites Imoen, Minsc, and Jaheira, who are held captive by the powerful evlen wizard Jon Irenicus. Nestled beneath Athkatla, this intricate maze is home to portal rooms, a strange laboratory, and an expansive library, all the hallmarks of an evil mage.
There’s no word yet on when we can expect the demo, but as we enter Spring this month, it shouldn’t be too long before we get to see what the team has been cooking firsthand.
