One particular character that fans have been waiting for in Elbaf is the former Emperor of the Sea, Big Mom, also known as Charlotte Linlin. She was heavily involved in the Wano Country arc, and although very little has been heard about them since, fans know that there is still a chance for her to be important in the future.
Big Mom’s Fate In Wano
- Big Mom Followed Luffy To Elbaf
- Kid and Law Teamed Up To Beat Big Mom
Big Mom was established quite early into the story by Oda as a threat to Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. Having been name-dropped before the timeskip, Big Mom came into the picture around the Fishman Island arc, and some years after, around the time when the story entered the Four Emperor Saga, she took center stage. Yonko Big Mom had her own arc in Whole Cake Island, but she also played a significant role in Wano.

As fans know already, Big Mom followed Luffy all the way to Wano to get revenge for ruining her Tea Party, and at the same time, her reputation as well. In Wano, Big Mom formed an alliance with Kaido to recreate Rocks, take over the world, and eventually go on and claim the One Piece. Undoubtedly, this was a massive step forward for the two, and with their collective might, they’d be impossible to beat. However, thanks to try collaboration of the Worst Generation with the fighters of Wano, the alliance was successfully thwarted before it even hit its full potential.
Big Mom ended up being taken down by the collaborative effort of Law and Kid, and together, these two played a significant role in reshaping the new era. Big Mom fought against two extremely powerful awakened users and although she was stronger than both, even combined, their trickery, especially of the former, saw to it that she got thrown off Onigashima. Big Mom also had mini nukes dropped on her from Onigashima, and eventually, the cataclysm following the defeat of Kaido blasted her off into the ocean. Since then, Big Mom’s fate has remained unknown, but fans know that she had connections to Elbaf and she could very much make it back into the story to gain relevance once again.

Oda Potentially Foreshadows Big Mom’s Arrival
One Piece chapter 1142 was absolutely massive in many ways and although it was certainly a buildup chapter in many ways, what fans were most excited about was clearly the nightmares of the children being turned into reality. Using the powers of Saint Sommers of the Holy Knights, the worst fears of the children of Elbaf were turned into reality, making it extremely difficult for the teachers of Walrus School to control the situation. Among these monsters were the likes of Fenrir, Nidhogg, Loki, Nika, Draugr, and even the likes of Jormungandr. Clearly, these monsters represent the most feared thing of each child and they’re now very real, running rampant in Elbaf.

Curiously enough, one child listed their own mother as the most feared thing, and at the very end of the chapter, fans could see a motherly beast emerge in Elbaf. Although the beast was in a corner, it was easy for the fans to see that this individual resembled Big Mom a lot.
Now, this could just be Oda drawing a scary mother, but fans already know who the scariest of all mothers in One Piece is, and the answer to that is the former Yonko of the Sea, Charlotte Linlin.

Loki is the powerful Accursed prince of Elbaf. He might have some godly abilities in One Piece.
In general, this isn’t even the first time that Big Mom has been mentioned in Wano. Her name was brought up during the giant feast by the Giants as well, and fans know that Loki himself is connected to Big Mom and her crew in many ways. Oda has been carefully name-dropping Big Mom in this arc, which leads one to believe that she may well return.
Of course, the biggest obstacle to Big Mom’s return is the fact that she is presumed dead by many. But, whether or not she’s truly dead remains to be seen. The Big Mom Pirates ship was clearly seen outside Wano after the arc, when they attacked CP0, and fans also know that Charlotte Pudding herself isn’t entirely sure whether Big Mom is dead or not. There are signs of Big Mom’s survival, and fans simply have to wait and see if that’s true.
Should Big Mom Come To Elbaf?
Big Mom’s Story Could Come A Full Circle In Elbaf
If the giant mother-like monster is a sign of Big Mom coming to Elbaf, then it would do wonders for her story. For one, Big Mom is deeply tied to the country. When she was a kid, she was dropped off on Elbaf by her parents in hopes that the Holy Mother, Mother Carmel, would help her case. Big Mom lived in Elbaf for quite a few months at Sheep’s House. She even formed relationships with the likes of Gerd, Hajrudin, Jarul, and many others in Elbaf Village. Of course, Big Mom was responsible for Jorul’s death, which is what got her kicked out. But, years later, she tried to reforge the connection to Elbaf once again through a marriage pact between Loki and Lola. Once again, she was met with failure here too, but there are certainly more than a few elements at play here, which opens up the door for Big Mom to potentially return to the country, if she’s alive.
As to what Oda could do with her here, Big Mom would most definitely ally with the Straw Hat Pirates, save the country she once tried to wreck by mistake, mend all the wrongdoings of the past, and eventually settle down in Elbaf and run an orphanage, just like Mother Carmel once did, bringing her story a full circle. Of course, so far, there is no conclusive indicator that Big Mom is alive, but fans can only dream because her return would make this arc even more exciting in many ways.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1142, is set to be March 9, 2025.
