Sega announced in a recent earnings call that it plans to launch fewer games in 2026, with a focus on Persona, Sonic, and Like a Dragon.

“The plan is currently being formulated, but we expect the volume of new titles in Full Game to be lower than this fiscal year,” Sega said in a Q&A (via VGC). “On the other hand, we expect continuous revenue contribution from repeat sales of new titles in Full Game (ie not free-to-play) this fiscal year and full-scale revenue contribution from new titles in F2P.”

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Will Have 23 Characters At Launch, Features Other Sega Games

There will be characters from other Sega games in CrossWorlds.

So far, we know that Sega plans to launch Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Project Century (the mysterious new RGG game), Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, and revivals of Virtua Fighter, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage next year.

Sonic And Like A Dragon Devs Are “Short Of Staff”

During the Q&A, Sega also revealed that it plans to strengthen three of its core developers, Sonic Team, RGG, and Atlus, to help focus on the aforementioned franchises in fiscal year 2026.

“Atlus is an important studio for us to expand Japanese IPs overseas, and we think it is necessary to strengthen it, and the studios involved in the Sonic and Like a Dragon IPs are also short of staff, and we are looking to reinforce personnel through additional hiring and [mergers and acquisitions],” Sega explained, though it didn’t divulge any further details about the possible M&As.

In the current fiscal year, Sega has already sold 20 million units of new games, and 12 million units of legacy games.

It’s not just gaming that Sega is enjoying success with, either. The recently released Sonic 3 movie became the second-highest-grossing video game adaptation in history last month, dethroning Warcraft and Detective Pikachu. Fittingly, Sonic is now second only to Mario, bringing their decades-long rivalry to the silver screen. With sequels to both underway, it’ll be interesting to see how things shake up in a couple of years.
