Fortnite is more than just your average FPS. Here are all the game modes you can try, ranked to determine which is best.

And while many of Fortnite’s locations are coming back in other game modes, like Fortnite OG or Reload, those are sometimes simplified versions without some of the elements you expected to return. Others, however, haven’t returned and might not do it in the foreseeable future.

Coral Castle

  • Added: Chapter 2 Season 3
  • Last seen: Chapter 2 Season 8

There aren’t many locations featuring a lot of water in Fortnite, so Coral Castle is almost one of a kind. The POI wasn’t very popular in Chapter 2 Season 3, so it didn’t come back for the Chapter 2 remix. But that’s what made it great: you could land there and spend a lot of time minding your own business until you were happy with your loot.

If the storm didn’t close on you, you could stay there for a long time before engaging in combat with other players.

Rave Cave

  • Added: Chapter 3 Season 3
  • Last seen: Chapter 3 Season 4

Chapter 3 Season 3 is still regarded as one of the best seasons in Fortnite’s history thanks to its chill vibes and iconic locations. After a war-like season, players wanted a rest, and locations like Rave Cave delivered exactly what they needed.

Apart from the loud music inside, Rave Cave had it all: a dancefloor, water to fish and loot, tons of chests, Slurp barrels, tunnels, and even a rollercoaster for ballers. It had many entrances and secret passages, making it great for all kinds of purposes.

Weeping Woods

  • Added: Chapter 2 Season 1
  • Last seen: Chapter 2 Remix

The forest biome isn’t getting much love from the Fortnite devs, who seem to favor more unique locations and grand buildings. That’s why Weeping Woods should return, although it shouldn’t do it alone. Weeping Woods was a great location to visit in Chapter 2, but it was even better to do it with Fireflies.

All buildings in the POI were made of wood, and setting anything on fire in Weeping Woods gave way to chaos and very intense gunfights that featured gas cans a lots of explosions.

Shifty Shafts

  • Last seen: Chapter 4 Season OG

While some iconic locations can take you to the sky, giving you a vantage point, others can take you underground to unearth secrets and powerful loot. Shifty Shafts was a huge mine full of tunnels and chests along the mine cart tracks. You could spend a lot of time trying to get everything hidden in this location that looked pretty empty from the outside.

The only downside to Shifty Shafts was that enemies could trap you inside very easily, preventing your escape from the Storm.

6

Lustrous Lagoon

  • Added: Chapter 3 Season 4
  • Last seen: Chapter 3 Season 4

Lustrous Lagoon was what remained of the Daily Bugle POI after a couple of seasons featuring Marvel characters in the Battle Pass. In Chapter 3 Season 4, before everything was taken over by the Chrome or destroyed by The Herald, it was home to The Driftwood, a huge flying pirate ship with great loot and lots of gold bars up for grabs.

Around the ship, you could find all kinds of weapons and healing items and almost all gunfights would feature the ship’s cannons to make everything better.

5

Brutal Bastion

  • Added: Chapter 4 Season 1
  • Last seen: Chapter 4 Season 4

Chapter 4 of Fortnite Battle Royale added many buildings with a distinct aesthetic, and Brutal Bastion was the pinnacle of those looks. You could explore big hallways with tall ceilings looking for loot or try to reach hidden spaces in its basement, where you could unearth treasure often.

Brutal Bastion was extremely popular in Chapter 4, which meant it was always full of people. It featured towers with ascenders and side buildings that made every confrontation unique and full of possibilities.

Frenzy Fields

  • Added: Chapter 4 Season 1
  • Last seen: Chapter 4 Season 4

Among all the farm-inspired locations in Fortnite, Frenzy Fields is the best of them all. Players could visit it during the entire Chapter 4, which ended with the time travel plot that brought the OG map back. With a big barn in the center and many side buildings, you could have very intense gunfights in every match.

Frenzy Fields was also home to many NPCs across different seasons, allowing you to get powerful items or complete different sets of quests, especially during the heist-themed season.

3

MEGA City

Buildings in Fortnite's MEGA City POI.
  • Added: Chapter 4 Season 2
  • Last seen: Chapter 4 Season 4

Chapter 4 Season 2 added many anime collaborations that made the battle royale experience extremely fun, so it had to feature a location inspired by the cyberpunk landscapes of Tokyo. MEGA City had it all, from giant skyscrapers for nesting snipers to dark alleys full of loot, and a port. It’s the biggest named location in Fortnite’s history.

While MEGA City might not come back until Epic Games remixes Chapter 4 (probably in 2026), a toned-down version lives in Chapter 6 in Seaport City.

2

Grand Glacier

Different parts of Fortnite's Grand Glacier POI.
  • Added: Chapter 5 Season 1
  • Last seen: Chapter 5 Season 4

Chapter 5 introduced the Society Bosses and Medallions, which some players loved and others hated. Either way, these bosses were located in huge buildings inspired by European architecture. Grand Glacier, more specifically, was based on the Grand Budapest Hotel, featuring tons of rooms to explore and many floors.

No matter where the Battle Bus was passing through, Grand Glacier was always a busy location in Chapter 5, whether you were looting in the gardens, its side buildings, or its huge interiors.

1

The Underworld

The Underworldis hallways in Fortnite.
  • Added: Chapter 5 Season 2
  • Last seen: Chapter 5 Season 4

The Underworld was way more popular than Mount Olympus in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2. The named location was important for completing quests involving Midas’ return but was also great for gearing up in any match. Swimming in The Underworld waters gave you the Underworld Dash, an ability many players still miss.

Additionally, the Mythics from The Underworld, like the Chains of Hades, were extremely popular during the Myths & Mortals Season, so you’d always find some players to fight with when visiting the dark POI.
