Deadlock cleverly blends team-based mechanics into a fast-paced shooter that takes strategy and reflexes to master. Understanding a hero’s ability is just part of the equation, as the game’s map requires careful consideration each time you switch between lanes.
In doing so, you’ll come across a mechanic, Sinner’s Sacrifice, that mixes your luck and practice with the game. These entities look like slot machines and grant you certain buffs that should become a priority as you progress through the game. If you’re looking for some clear information about this mechanic, you’re in the right place.
Deadlock is in alpha, so everything in this guide is subject to change in the future.
What Does Sinner’s Sacrifice Do?
As the match progresses, you’ll find slot machines that let you perform Sinner’s Sacrifice. This is a mechanic that lets you hit the machine (by pressing Q) with a melee attack. Every time you hit it, you’ll be granted a certain number of souls.
The machine usually has 500 total HP, which means you can hit it three to five times before it breaks.
You cannot destroy it with bullets or special abilities and will have to perform a melee attack for this to work.
Right above the machine, you’ll notice a series of light bulbs. At first, these indicate the machine’s HP—the more you hit it, the fewer bulbs those bulbs glow. However, before landing your final hit, the bulbs will start to light up in a pattern from least to most lighting up.
Your goal is to hit it when all the bulbs light up. This will guarantee a much better reward. You can gain more than 300 souls by breaking the machine, and also acquire certain buffs depending on when you perform the Sinner’s Sacrifice mechanic in the match.
To do the most damage, press and hold Q and release it right before the final bulb on the machine lights up.
How To Find A Sinner’s Sacrifice Slot Machine
Just like Gold Urns that provide numerous benefits for your health, attack, defense, and more, the Sinner’s Sacrifice slot machine can be found scattered across the map. Their appearance and visibility will depend on how far the match has progressed.
Usually, you’ll find them in the area around the first set of enemy walkers that appear in any lane. You want to make sure that your minions are safe to move forward, past the first set of enemies, in order for you to navigate this area freely.
It’s the best way to earn souls when you’re playing the role of a skirmisher, going from point to point without worrying about pushing a single lane. Sinner’s Sacrifice is best to initiate during the early and mid-game scenarios.
A stealthy hero like Haze can help you with Sinner’s Sacrifice early in the game, without being detected by enemies around you.
