Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda gives his opinions on a 15th weapon type.

In the Oilwell Basin, there’s a slimy and weird monster called Nu Udra; however, don’t judge it by its looks, as this monster is the apex predator of that region. Its fire-based abilities prove him a dangerous enemy, and here we’ll tell you everything about it.

  • Tentacles (Severable)

Immune to Fire-type Damage

Best Weapon Damage

Nu Udra’s Head is its weakest part, which is why you should aim for that place whenever you can; a good suggestion involves mounting it so it falls to the ground leaving its head vulnerable. However, its tentacles and membrane, while breakable, are its most resistant points, so don’t spend too much time hitting those unless you specifically need to.

Regarding elements, Nu Udra is immune to Fire damage, so of course, Water attacks are the strongest against it. Since slashing damage is the most effective, we suggest taking a Long Sword, Dual Blades, or Insect Glaive to this fight.

Best Equipment To Fight Nu Udra

Best Recommended Weapons

  • Sandsea Ghantisil (Hunting Horn – Balahara)
  • Master Sabers (Dual Blades – Water Element path)
  • Khlunda-of-the-Waves (Long Sword – Uth Duna)

Best Recommended Armor

While we include the maximum upgrades of each weapon we recommend, remember that any stage of those weapon’s lines will work.

Nu Udra will suffer the most from Water-type damage, so you want weapons that can inflict as much of that element as possible. For this reason, Sandsea Ghantisl and the Master Sabers should work perfectly, and if you want great alternative options, you could also use the Khlunda-of-the-Waves Long Sword.

For the armor, you want to resist as much Fire-type Damage as possible, so the Ajarakan set will be one of the early best options; however, if you’re in High Rank and don’t mind going the extra mile, you will have better results with the Gravios set.

Nu Udra – Fight Breakdown And Moves

Black flames shaped as a Nu Udra with fire on the background in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Nu Udra is quite a mobile monster, and being a flaming octopus makes it a bit confusing at first, but don’t fret; keep moving and try to flank it, taking the front part of its head as a reference to know where it’ll be aiming. Another thing to mind is the tentacles, which can be quick and hit you hard, and it also like to extend itself like a blanket and slam you quite hard, so always move quickly out of the way whenever it starts stretching.

After a while, the monster will take the fight to a volcanic area, so have your items ready to deal with the heat. Whenever Nu Udra gets enraged it’ll light itself on fire, and it’ll start using waves of fire attacks, so mind your environment and try to get some Watermoss with your Clutching Claw. Dousing the flames with those projectiles will weaken Nu Udra, which can make a difference in the long run.

Just get your Nulberries ready and have a Cool Drink before starting, and you should be fine.
