While Stardew Valley appears to be a simple farming simulator, developer ConcernedApe has added a bunch of Quests that take the experience far beyond tending crops and raising animals. Players can find two types of quests in Stardew Valley: Story quests and Help Wanted quests.
Help Wanted quests are a type of side quest that you can find on the bulletin board outside Pierre
‘s General Store in Pelican Town. These quests are a great way to earn some extra money and increase your friendship with the villagers. As of the Stardew Valley 1.6 update, the Help Wanted board now features a star counter in the top left corner.

Stardew Valley is an awesome game that runs in a seasonal format – here’s what players should do in their first year.
What Do The Help Wanted Quest Board Stars Mean?
A counter of three stars is displayed on the top left of the Help Wanted board. These stars are a helpful little feature that was added in the 1.6 update. Contrary to popular belief, they’re not a difficulty rating, but rather a tracker for earning Prize Tickets.
Each time you complete a “Help Wanted” quest from the board, you earn one star. Once you collect three stars, the next quest that appears on the board will reward you with a Prize Ticket when you complete it. After you get your Prize Ticket
, the star counter resets back to zero.
Since you can do multiple quests at once, it might not always be obvious when you’re about to get a Prize Ticket. To make it easier to track, focus on finishing quests one at a time.
What Are Prize Tickets in Stardew Valley?
Prize Tickets in Stardew Valley are a special currency that can be used to redeem valuable rewards from the prize machine located in Mayor Lewis’ house. This machine dispenses a variety of valuable rewards, including seeds, artifacts, crafting materials, and even rare items like Stardrop Tea
.
The Prize Machine shows you the next three prizes in line, so you can plan accordingly. The first 22 prizes are pre-determined, but after that, the machine cycles through a set of 9 possible prizes.
Apart from completing “Help Wanted” quests, you can also get Prize Tickets by completing Special Orders in Stardew Valley, which are more challenging quests that you unlock in the Fall of your first year. Besides this, winning the Egg Festival and the Festival of Ice multiple times can also earn you Prize Tickets. You can buy Prize Tickets for 1,000 Star tokens each at the Stardew Valley Fair.
