Being able to pause has been a staple in video games since pretty much the beginning; however, there are some games out there, like FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, that do not feature a dedicated pause button.
It makes sense for games that have online multiplayer functionality, but in Monster Hunter Wilds, you don’t need to worry because there is indeed a pause button. Still, it’s kind of buried in the menus and might not be the easiest to find for a Monster Hunter newcomer, so that’s why we made this guide to help you out.
It’s worth noting that you can only pause in Monster Hunter Wilds if you’re not connected to other players and are playing the game solo. It wouldn’t really make sense to be able to pause your gameplay session if you’re fighting a monster with three other real human players over the internet.

How to Pause in Monster Hunter Wilds
-
In order to pause your gameplay in Monster Hunter Wilds (even when you’re fighting a monster), you’ll just need to press the menu button on your controller and then tab over with the left and right bumpers to the System section. You’ll see the option to Pause at the top of the list, right above Options.

Once the game is paused, you’ll no longer be able to control your character, and everything will, obviously, freeze in place.
To go back to normal and resume gameplay, you can either click into the right control stick or press the Circle button (on PS5) or the B button (Xbox).
