Summary

  • Spider-Man 4 may introduce newer MCU characters.
  • Kingpin & Daredevil not expected in Spider-Man 4.
  • Recent comments on character appearances in upcoming movies may not be final.

Marvel Studios has featured a lot of cameo appearances in movies and television shows in recent years, and that has built a level of expectation amongst audiences that they will see that all of the time. Spider-Man 4 is one of the most exciting upcoming projects on the confirmed list for Marvel Studios, and there are plenty of newer Marvel Cinematic Universe characters that might fit nicely into that world.

This is particularly true if Marvel Studios decides to go down the path of making Spider-Man 4 a street-level movie, which has been rumored. That could open up the chance to introduce many of the street-level characters that Marvel Studios has been bringing in lately to the broader MCU audience. However, Kingpin and Daredevil are two characters that fans shouldn’t anticipate appearing in Spider-Man 4, at least according to Vincent D’Onofrio.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe television status of Spider-Man has now been officially confirmed.

D’Onofrio was speaking to Meltdown Press about the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series when he addressed their potential future and a possible Spider-Man 4 appearance. He said, “Well, for you, we’re not. You can ask that because we’re not in Spider-Man 4, or at least nobody has told me that we are. And, but, you know, I’m just saying that to Charlie, Adam only because we’ve had a lot of, we’ve done a lot of interviews and most of them hadn’t really thought that through.”

Of course, just because D’Onofrio has claimed they won’t be part of the movie doesn’t mean they won’t be, as Marvel actors have often lied about appearances they ended up making in a bid to keep it secretive. Spider-Man 4 has reportedly gone through major script changes after the initial idea was rejected by Marvel chiefs, so not having expected surprise appearances might not be as shocking.

On the other hand, Charlie Cox did make a cameo appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home in his role as Matt Murdock. This was his first official debut in the MCU. Therefore, there is precedent for the character to interact with Spider-Man’s world. By the time Spider-Man 4 comes out, he will be a more established character due to his own series, which is why many people will likely want to see him appear in this movie. Meanwhile, Kingpin is a character that can quickly be brought into a film such as this, with his presence being such a commanding one.

It has been rumored that Marvel is taking Spider-Man in a totally different direction with this movie, which would be an interesting decision to make with the beloved character. However, that could also line up with Daredevil and Kingpin appearing in Daredevil: Born Again, which is set to be the most violent and brutal MCU project to date. Bringing that aspect into the world of Spider-Man would fit with the character undergoing major change. That is why the latest comments can only be taken so seriously, especially since Spider-Man 4 hasn’t even begun shooting yet, meaning it would be easy to inject these two characters in at some stage.
