Captain America: Brave New World is quickly losing steam at the box office, even with minimal competition during a relatively quiet winter weekend. After an impressive $100 million debut over the extended Presidents Day holiday, Disney and Marvel’s latest installment saw a sharp 68% drop in its second weekend, earning just $28.3 million from 4,105 theaters across North America. Despite holding onto the top spot at the box office, the Anthony Mackie-led superhero film has amassed $141 million domestically and $289.4 million globally, per Variety.

Captain America: Brave New World Should Have Had Deeper Connections To The MCU’s Disney Plus Shows

There were opportunities to link Captain America: Brave New World to several MCU Disney Plus shows, but Marvel Studios wasted them.

After seeing the significant drop, Rob Liefeld reacted to reports that Brave New World pulled in just $7.2 million on its second Friday in theaters, marking an 82.4% drop from its opening day. In response, he bluntly stated, “Get Feige off the mound. He’s spent,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting the MCU is in danger and Disney needs to fire Kevin Feige. His comments quickly gained traction, with former X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo, who was controversially let go from Marvel, responding with a simple but telling reaction, “Yikes this is bad.”

Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Calls for Kevin Feige to Be Fired Amid Marvel’s Struggles

Liefeld’s issues with Marvel and Feige appear to go beyond just box office numbers. The comic book creator recently shared his frustrations on his Robservations with Rob Liefeld podcast, revealing that he felt snubbed at the premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine. According to Liefeld, Feige ignored him on the red carpet, and he was left out of the afterparty, something he felt was intentional after being included in past Deadpool film events. He also claimed that press photos featuring him alongside the movie’s creative team were mysteriously deleted. “It was meant to embarrass, diminish, defeat me,” Liefeld alleged on his podcast. He didn’t stop there, going on to say, “Kevin Feige does not treat comic book creators well. That is my personal experience.”

Beyond his red carpet snub, Liefeld also claimed he had reached out to Marvel prior to the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere, requesting a special credit in the film akin to how Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were honored in the opening of the Christopher Reeve-led Superman movie. He emphasized that he wasn’t asking for extra money but instead wanted more promotional opportunities. According to Liefeld, Marvel never responded to his request, and his agents later informed him that executives were displeased with his inquiry.
