Summary

  • An Avowed player has discovered that a certain spell lets you briefly walk across water.
  • Bristling Frost, which is primarily used for damage reduction, allows you to apply an ice shield that will also freeze any water that you stand on.

Avowed has been a slightly controversial game since its release, splitting opinions quite a lot, while also finding itself at the center of yet another “anti-woke” campaign. Despite that, the one thing that most people agree on is that it has a lot of really cool magic that players can use, and it seems as though spells can be used in some rather creative ways.

For example, there’s a spell called Bristling Frost, which covers you in a shield of ice that reduces all the damage you take by 10 percent, whilst also accumulating frost damage on any melee attackers. It’s a pretty decent defensive option in a pinch, but one player recently discovered that it has a hidden side effect that makes an awful lot of sense when you stop and think about it.

Avowed Has A Spell That Lets You Walk On Water

First shared by Twitter user DaveOshry, if you activate Bristling Frost and then dive into the nearest body of water, you’ll quickly discover that you can actually walk easily across the water’s surface. We can see this demonstrated in DaveOshry’s video (which is embedded above), as they activate the spell, jump into a lake, and leave a large trail of ice behind them.

It’s not the most useful of side effects, especially since the ability to walk on water only lasts for about 20 seconds, but it could be an easy way to cross large bodies of water if you don’t feel like swimming, or potentially escape a tricky situation by hightailing it into the nearest body of water. Either way, it’s a very cool discovery and another great example of Avowed’s complex magic system.

Chances are that we’ll find a few more cool uses of Avowed’s magic system in the next few weeks, but one thing it can’t do is kill chickens. Skyrim fans will have experienced accidentally slaughtering a chicken and having the entire local townsfolk descend upon them with murder in their eyes, but there’s no fear of doing that in Avowed.
