During the 2025 DICE Summit in Las Vegas, Marvel Rivals developer NetEase Games shared its interest in developing games on the Nintendo Switch 2, if given the chance. The Marvel Rivals development team also confirmed that they have been in contact with Nintendo and have been working on some development kits.

Since its January 16 reveal, discussions about the Switch 2 have dominated social media. Though some details remain light about what Nintendo’s next console is capable of, Nintendo confirmed that most Switch games will be backward compatible with the Switch 2, though there are some exceptions. However, the excitement surrounding the new Nintendo system has also led to some unscrupulous behavior. Some early Switch 2 units have allegedly started to circulate on the black market for staggering prices that approached the $40,000 mark. It is unclear if any of these units have changed hands.

With the Switch 2 set to officially launch in 2025, NetEase Games publicly expressed interest in developing games for it. In an interview with IGN that took place at the 2025 DICE Summit in Las Vegas, Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu stated that NetEase has been in talks with Nintendo for some time, and the team has been working on some development kits. Wu also stated that the reason why Marvel Rivals was not launched on the original Switch was due to technical limitations that prevented the game from being an enjoyable experience on Nintendo’s console.

Marvel Rivals Developer Expresses Interest In Working With The Switch 2

  • Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu said NetEase Games has been in contact with Nintendo and has development kits.
  • The Switch’s technical limitations prevented NetEase from porting Marvel Rivals to the system.
  • The mouse-like functions of the Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers may be useful for games like Marvel Rivals.
  • More information about the Switch 2 will be revealed during the April 2 Nintendo Direct.

However, Wu stated that if the Switch 2 can provide players with great performance in NetEase’s titles, the developers would be open to working on it. Considering that Nintendo filed a patent that demonstrated the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers having mouse-like functions, games that rely on fast mouse movements like Marvel Rivals could potentially benefit from it.

The statement from NetEase came at a busy time for Marvel Rivals. Following the release of Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman to the roster, Marvel Rivals will release the two remaining members of The Fantastic Four, Human Torch and The Thing, on February 21. The arrival of Human Torch and The Thing will coincide with a mid-Season 1 update that was originally slated to reset the ranks of all players. However, NetEase backed down on the Marvel Rivals ranking refresh hours after receiving backlash on social media.

As for the Switch 2, more information about it will be revealed during a Nintendo Direct on April 2. With any luck, Marvel Rivals may yet appear on Nintendo’s next-generation console.
