The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 are set to receive an official introduction in just a few weeks time, the GPU maker has confirmed. This will likely see the reveal of the official specs and performance data for the new graphics cards, along with a final release date. The cards are believed to offer performance on par with Nvidia’s new mid-tier GeForce cards, the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070, with those GPUs also expected to get full unveilings in the coming few weeks.

The new AMD gaming GPUs were initially teased by the company during the CES trade show in January 2025, but it hasn’t said much about them since. However, we’ve seen various RX 9070 XT spec leaks pop up, along with rumors that the RX 9070 XT pricing strategy will see these GPUs go toe-to-toe with Nvidia‘s new RTX 5070-series cards. As such, we won’t have too much longer to wait to find out which cards will prevail and ultimately find their way on to our best graphics card guide as the best mid-range option.

X post sharing AMD Radeon RX 9000 series announcement by AMD executive

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), AMD executive David McAfee shared the news that the “wait is almost over” for the unveiling of the new Radeon RX 9000 series. According to McAfee, AMD plans to officially unveil the new GPU series on February 28 at 8am EST / 5am PST, with the card still expected to “hit shelves in early March.”

While AMD hasn’t shared any further details, we’d expect such an event to reveal the full specs and pricing for both the RX 9070 XT and its lesser-powered sibling, the AMD Radeon RX 9070. AMD is also likely to share performance data that will pit these new RDNA 4 GPUs against their competition.

Competition is the key word here, because it’s expected that the RX 9070 XT will compete strongly against the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 once both cards are released. With Nvidia seemingly delaying the RTX 5070 release until March 2025, the battle for the mid-tier GPU market is going to heat up very quickly indeed, but we won’t know who the winner is until we can test these cards out for ourselves.

We’ll be looking forward to hearing from AMD about this new series of graphics cards for gamers on February 28. Until then, check out our RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 guides for all the latest information and speculation about these new AMD cards.
