Summary

  • Elden Ring Nightreign disappointed a lot of fans earlier this year by revealing it would not have a two-player mode, forcing people to play as a trio.
  • While you can team up with randos, a lot of people began calling for a dedicated two-player mode.
  • FromSoftware has seemingly heard those complaints, as it revealed it’s “considering” a two-player option for Elden Ring Nightreign.

Elden Ring Nightreign looks like it’s going to be yet another great game by FromSoftware, even though it’s a massive departure from the studio’s standard formula. Even from the game’s recent previews, we can get a good idea that the game is going to be fab, but ever since the announcement, there has been one aspect that has disappointed/concerned a lot of fans.

The People Who Would Love Elden Ring Nightreign The Most Probably Won’t Play It

Elden Ring Nightrein is the most and least FromSoftware game ever, which makes it a weird one to market.

Shortly after the reveal, director Junya Ishizaki explained that Elden Ring Nightreign wouldn’t include a dedicated two-player option, which was seen as a slightly bizarre decision by a lot of people. If you want to play with just one other person, you’re forced to have a random stranger tag along for the ride, which is obviously not ideal for any party involved.

At the time, Ishizaki explained that the decision to restrict the multiplayer to three players was to help “retain that sense of accomplishment you get from battling a boss together”, but it wasn’t really a satisfying excuse for many. After so many people started expressing their frustration, it now seems as though FromSoftware may buckle from the pressure.

In a new interview with Ungeek, Ishizaki once again addressed concerns about potentially playing the game as a duo, saying that there’s “definitely no issue there” since you can jump into a game with a randomer. Not a great statement from the director, but he does follow that up with a bit of hope, as he says that FromSoftware is “considering” adding a two-player option.

“Regarding having just two players, not three players or solo, it is something we are considering, but it is currently not in the game at the moment.”

It’s a little difficult to imagine FromSoftware adding something of that magnitude, what with the game just a few months out from release. We learned yesterday that Elden Ring Nightreign will launch on May 30 later this year, so there’s not much time to make sweeping alterations based on fan feedback. However, it’s possible a two-player mode could be added after launch, so here’s hoping FromSoftware listens to the fans.
